Goodbye, KimXi And KimErald? Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, And Gerald Anderson Have New Partners In Upcoming Star Cinema Films
This year, Star Cinema has introduced new and unexpected pairs. But there is a common denominator here: Kim Chiu.
The "Chinita Princess," whose hit supernatural horror film The Ghost Bride is now available on iflix, is paired with comedian Ryan Bang for an upcoming film. The two will be working with comedy director Tony Reyes in “a story of love and friendship, mixed with comedy and a little horror," according to the director. “Mas maganda na nakita ko na agad ang rapport nila nu'ng magkakasama kami (It's great that I already saw their rapport when we were all together).”
Kim, who was famously paired with Gerald Anderson and Xian Lim in numerous projects, charmingly revealed how she’s excited to work with the South Korean actor. “Sikat po ngayon ang mga Korean heartthrobs, at isa na po du'n si Ryan Bang (Korean heartthrobs are famous now, and one of them is Ryan Bang),” Kim quipped.
“Ang pinagkaiba ko kina Gerald and Xian, maganda talaga sila tingnan kapag kasama nila si Kim Chiu. Pinag-iba kapag ako ang katabi ni Kim, lalo siyang mas maganda tingnan (Gerald and Xian look great with Kim Chiu. The only difference with me is that Kim looks even more beautiful beside me),” Ryan Bang shared with the press at their story conference. The two have started shooting for the untitled film set to be released this year.
Meanwhile, Xian, Kim's leading man for years, is also part of an unexpected love team in a dark and steamy film, which will hit theaters this Valentine’s Day. Sin Island, whose trailer garnered 1.3M views within 24 hours, features Xian as David, who’s married to Kanika, played by Coleen Garcia. The film veers away from typical romantic stories, with its erotic thriller twists of seduction, extra-marital affairs, and even death threats.
Kim's first love team partner, Gerald Anderson, whom she has recently worked with in the hit TV series Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin, also found a new partner in the person of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. This fresh pairing will star in a romantic comedy film by director Cathy Garcia-Molina.
“Excited ako personally sa role ko kasi kakaiba siya, at look test pa lang namin, medyo challenging na. So kinakabahan, pero excited ako (I am personally excited because my role is unique. Our look test was slightly challenging to begin with. I'm nervous but I'm excited),” Gerald shared with the press. “Medyo overwhelming din, kasi kakaiba story and I get to work with [the] Miss Universe pa (It's quite overwhelming because the story is unique, and I even get to work with the Miss Universe).”
Pia, who has recently starred in the blockbuster comedy film Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad with Vice Ganda, expressed her excitement to star in a romantic-comedy for the first time—and with Gerald Anderson, no less! “Napapanood ko na si Gerald noon pa lang, so alam ko talaga na magaling siya umarte, so I’m challenged din na kailangan, galingan ko (I've been watching Gerald even before, so I know that he's a good actor, so I'm challenged to do a good job),” Pia said. It's Pia and Gerald's first time to work with direk Cathy.
Will the new endeavors of Xian and Gerald mark the end of their respective team-ups with Kim? We hope not. While new pairings are always welcome, the charm of the classics is something that is at times quite hard to move on from.
