Are Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Getting Divorced?

After eight years of (kind of) blissful togetherness, this Hollywood couple could be calling it quits in the next months

It's the end of an era.

First, the Kardashian-Jenner fam announced that Keeping Up With The Kardashians is on its 2oth and very last season, then Kim drew flak for her one-day birthday last October that cost a million bucks, and now, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly getting divorced? 2021 is definitely off to a rough start for one of Hollywood's most (in)famous families!

The news about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's rumored divorce first came out on Page Six where it was revealed that although the permanent split hasn't been finalized, it's only a matter of time until Kim officially files divorce papers. She's rumored to have hired divorce attorney Laura Wasser, the same lawyer who facilitated her divorce with her second husband, basketball star Kris Humphries.

There's so much to catch up on this developing story; Kim was apparently spotted sans wedding ring all throughout the holidays and spent them away from Kanye with her family, and that both Kim and Kanye have supposedly been trying to get divorced for over a year now.

Different "sources close to the couple" claim opposing reasons behind the impending divorce.

Kim's confidants say that behind her decision to want to get out of the marriage is Kanye's increasingly bizarre behavior. It's no secret that he's a die-hard Pro-Trump supporter (and even wears a MAGA hat proudly), but aside from his political views, he's also known to go on many angry, uncontrollable social media rants (including one where he revealed that Kim had considered aborting their firstborn).

In fact, the 43-year-old rapper has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and was hospitalized for psychiatric issues in 2016. Whether or not he's been admitted to mental health institutions in more recent years was never revealed. Thinking of their four young children—North (7), Saint (5), Chicago (2), and Psalm (1)—Kim wanted to shield them from this instability and unpredictability.

There's also the fact that Kanye had actual plans to run for the 2020 US Presidential Election under the "Birthday Party," so, there may be grains of truth in Kim's justifications for a divorce.

On the other hand, Kanye allegedly says that he's been trying to end this marriage since 2018, mostly because he'd had enough with Kim and her family's thirst for the spotlight. He reportedly disagreed with the reality TV star's lifestyles and excessive spending, and wanted to live a more low-key life with Kim.

He also had issues with Kim's burgeoning social activism. In case you missed it, Kim is actually studying to become a lawyer herself and wants to focus on criminal justice reform and prisoners' clemency. Kim has even worked with outgoing President Trump for the successful pardon of several prisoners, some of whom were on death row.

Ultimately, it looks like both of them have a lot to bring to the table!

There's a clincher though; Kim Kardashian and Kanye West might not get divorced despite all these reasons and more, all thanks to marriage counseling. It's unconfirmed, but the husband and wife are reportedly undergoing couples' therapy to try and salvage whatever is left of their marriage.

Before it reached this point, the couple had apparently been living separately and have been taking turns in caring for their kids. They have two homes (Kim's Calabasas property and their family home in Hidden Hills, LA), and Kim often shuffles back and forth between them with the kids.

The last time they celebrated as a complete family was at Kim's 40th birthday in October last year. Kim and the Kardashian-Jenner clan flew to Tahiti together with Kanye following much, much later, but leaving almost as soon as he arrived and gave Kim her birthday present (which was a hologram of her late father, in case you were wondering).

Kim and Kanye spent Christmas apart.

They were married for six years, but have been together for a total of eight.

They tied the knot in May 2014 in one of biggest weddings the world has ever seen. Their wedding was held in Florence, Italy and had a bunch of pre- and post-wedding activities in different parts of the world for their guests. The whole affair cost a little less than $8.2 million.
