Kit Harington And Rose Leslie's Scotland Wedding Is The Real-Life Game Of Thrones Nuptials We've All Been Waiting For
The King in the North is set to tie the knot with his wildling bride on June 23 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
From seasons two to four of this epic HBO series, we saw how Jon Snow grapple with, and eventually fell in love, with the wild-hearted Ygritte. Little did Game of Thrones fans know that the amazing onscreen chemistry between actors Kit Harington and Rose Leslie was being fueled by an actual real-life romance—which they managed to keep secret for four years!
The pair made their relationship official on April 2016 on the red carpet, and a little over a year later, got engaged.
Now, as their fans wait with baited breath for photos of their wedding to emerge, we share with you everything we know about the ceremony that's bound to excite even the most casual GoT watcher.
When and where is the wedding?
Kit and Rose are set to tie the knot on June 23 in Wardhill Castle, Rose's family property. While she might have played a wildling on Game of Thrones, in actuality, Rose is of aristocratic background. The castle and the grounds have been in the Leslie clan for 900 years and Rose's father is the clan's current chief.
It's speculated that the she and Kit might exchange vows either in the chapel located within castle grounds or in the castle's drawing room that fits 80 guests.
The reception, on the other hand, will take advantage of pleasant summer weather and will be held outdoors. A marquee has already been pitched in the castle's surrounding woodlands to evoke an authentic rustic feel in their wedding party.
Of course, the Harington-Leslie wedding would not be complete without the attendance of their castmates. Kit did, after all, admit that he fell in love with Rose on the set, and it was his castmates who first witnessed the blossoming of this relationship that was years in the making.
In fact, Kit revealed that he even called up the show's producer to tell him that it was a must to pause production to make room for their wedding! It was important that his best buds from the cast and crew would be able to attend, and so asked the show's top execs to be granted this massive favor.
The couple hasn't made their guest list public, but there have been sightings of Sophie Tuner (Sansa Stark) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) arriving in Scotland just in time for the wedding.
How was it announced?
As is customary in many UK weddings, an engagement announcement is placed in the local papers. For Kit and Rose, they chose The Times to list the special news in.
What are the invitations like?
Asked by fans if he ever considered making his wedding Game of Thrones-themed, the husband-to-be casually laughed it off and joked that he'd probably have a hard time convincing Rose to agree to that.
But his wedding isn't without a tasteful nod to the show that brought he and his future wife together. Apparently, their wedding invitations featured stamps bearing the image of Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
Who's providing the entertainment?
Rose and Kit are a pretty cool couple, so don't expect traditional quartet to produce subtle lullabies for their reception. Instead, Kit has enlisted the catchily folksy band Mumford & Sons, an English band that Kit met on the set of his Graham Norton interview in 2015 and has remained friends with ever since.
And the other details?
Rose's dress, the flowers, best man, bridal entourage, caterer, rings, and other details we can't wait to learn more about will only be revealed once the wedding begins and photos from the event make their rounds online.
We're willing to wait, as the wedding is so close to happening!
Congratulations to the soon-to-be newlyweds!
