5 'Tentastic' Pentagon Facts That Will Make You Want To Stan Them Now

If you’re looking for a new K-pop group to get to know and eventually stan, look no further. Here’s Pentagon, a nine-member band (originally 10) dubbed as Cube Entertainment’s “secret weapon”

Apart from the obvious stunning visuals, Pentagon is undeniably a powerhouse, and the entertainment and creative industries are witnesses to that. With their skills and talents ranging from singing and dancing to acting and modeling to hosting and producing (phew!), it is no surprise that Pentagon is indeed one of Cube Entertainment’s best.

The rising South Korean idol group is a product of Mnet’s Pentagon Maker show and is composed of Hui (Lee Hoe Taek), Jinho (Jo Jin Ho), Kino (Kang Hyung Gu), Yuto (Adachi Yuto), Hongseok (Yang Hong Seok), Yanan (Yan An), Yeo One (Yeo Chang Gu), Shinwon (Ko Shin Won), and Wooseok (Jung Woo Seok); E’Dawn (Kim Hyo Jong) left the group in 2018.

Since their debut in 2016, the group has consistently proven themselves to be among the K-pop groups to watch for. Though underrated, Cube Entertainment’s secret weapon has currently had successful album releases and multimedia projects. All these have transpired even while two members (Hui and Jinho) were away due to military service.

And since it’s their 5th anniversary today (yes, it’s today: 10/10), let’s celebrate this milestone by getting to know them more!

1. They are self-producing artists.

Pentagon has been hands-on in the creation of all their albums and they take a huge pride in every song they have single-handedly composed. In an interview with Soompi, Jinho had this to say about their fourth mini album, DEMO_01: “It’s our first self-composed album so it’s really precious and meaningful to us. Our members gave lots of ideas and we voted for the name. We hope this [album] will be a good start for our self-producing [in the future].”

In October last year, the group once again showed what they are capable of and released their tenth self-produced EP called WE:TH. It contains the title track “Daisy” that gave them their first win from The Show!

2. They sing heartfelt covers.

Not only are they skillful interpreters of their very own masterpieces but they are great at singing other artists’ songs, too! Among the group’s notable performances were their take on BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls,” “Lovesick Boys” and a capella of Frozen 2’s “Into The Unknown;” Hui’s version of “Dalla Dalla” by Itzy, Kino’s one-man version of BTS’ “Life Goes On;” and Jinho and Hui’s soulful rendition of Bruno Mars’ “Gorilla.”

3. They have actors among their midst.

Talk about a well-rounded bunch! The boys have dabbled into acting and, in fact, some of the members have appeared on Elite School Uniform’s mini commercial drama back in 2016.

In 2017, Wooseok, Jinho, Yeo One, Yuto, and Shinwon made a cameo appearance in JTBC’s Age of Youth 2 as members of the group pop group Asgard. This year, Hongseok has shown great promise when he took on the supporting role as a policeman in Netflix’s Move to Heaven; he has also acted alongside Red Velvet’s Yeri for his first leading role in the romantic-thriller Blue Birthday

4. Their leader, Hui, and their maknae, Wooseok are brilliant songwriters.

Wooseok ranked 25th with 81 songs and Hui 46th, with 58 among the top 80 most copyrighted K-pop idols by the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) as of June 2021.

The two have participated in the creation of their 2021 hit “Do or Not,” which catapulted the group to fame. It is also important to note, although it’s a known fact, that it was Hui’s genius that birthed Wanna One’s hit called “Energetic.”

5. They have created songs especially for their fans.

To thank their fandom, Universe, Pentagon has penned and produced “To Universe” which was included in their third mini album Ceremony. And in 2020, the group released a heartwarming digital track called “Eternal Flame” which has lyrics that featured quotes from the messages that their loving fans sent them. Now, who wouldn’t want to stan a group like Pentagon?

Happy Pentagon Day!
