Rescheduling a major three-day shoot back in Manila to be able to be a part of this rare opportunity, Kris brought immeasurable pride to her fellow Filipinos back home and abroad when she walked down the red carpet alongside the blockbuster's all-Asian cast. Representing her country with beauty and poise, this acclaimed actress was a vision in a yellow "modern Maria Clara" created especially for her by Pinoy designer Michael Leyva. Her choice of color was deliberate, as she felt that it perfectly represented her love for her country and parents, too.
(Song credit: Handog ng Pilipino by the APO & all star OPM singers from the @starmusicph album Paalam, Maraming Salamat) Friends, supporters, and followers have been sending me nonstop links from the @crazyrichasians Hollywood premiere... i am blessed i did not fail in representing us Filipinos... in the past i’ve been accused of “making everything about me” & may “blogger” pa po na pinagsabihan ako when i chose to DEFEND the HONOR of my parents na- “Ms. Aquino, this is not about you...” i can now 100% agree w/ her previous statement. August 21, 1983 and August 1, 2009 will always be painful dates- PERO ipagkait man ng iba- mga araw yun na habang buhay ng magpapaalala sa ‘tin that the Filipino is worth dying for, fighting for, and living for... in my own small way kaya ko na pong idagdag- the Filipino is worth working for, striving for, and succeeding for... most of all- being Filipino is worth being GRATEFUL for. For that 1 night, ibinigay sa kin yung karangalan na tumayo, maglakad, at ngumiti bilang simbolo ninyo. ?? For every Filipino here & abroad, please: DARE TO DREAM, CONTINUE BELIEVING, and always know that as a people, we are more than GOOD ENOUGH. Because we always give our hearts & souls, we bravely confront hardships, willingly sacrifice being separated from our loved ones, and we remain resilient YET compassionate & kindhearted. Marunong tayong magmahal, mag-alaga, sumuporta, tumanaw ng utang na loob, at higit sa lahat hindi natin binibitawan ang TIWALA- sa Diyos, at sa likas na kabutihan ng bawa’t isa. #philippines ??????????????????
Right next to Kris as she was waving at an adoring crowd and posing for photographs was her youngest son Bimby, who looked just as sharp in a barong and pants. Looking like they were having the time of their lives together, no one would have thought that Kris was, in fact, feeling rather unwell prior to the glitzy event. With a schedule as busy as hers coupled with the long flight to California, Kris was feeling a little fatigued, but was undeterred.
Staying true to one of her many famous quotes, "If you have a dream and you don't work for it, that dream will never happen," the mom of two managed to look flawless in her first Hollywood event despite everything else.
Looking back at the unforgettable experience, Kris knows that it was achievement not just for herself, but also for talented Filipinos everywhere and the local movie industry. Her participation in a groundbreaking Hollywood film is a testament to how Filipinos in film, both on and off screen, are capable of bringing world-class performances to an international audience.
Having risen to great heights since she broke into the scene as a teenage actress, this was by all means a dream come true for Kris, and one that many other Pinoys like her can aspire for!
