Mark Wahlberg Donates "All the Money in the World” Reshoot Fee to Time’s Up In Michelle Williams’ Name
The world we now live in has never been bolder than today. The culture of silence was overpowered with empowered voices—all races and gender, both young and old, are coming together to speak up against misconducts. With issues on sexual harrassment getting more and more attention, people have realized that they aren’t alone, and such acts shouldn’t be tolerated by any means.
Equality is important, no matter what issue is being raised. So in light of the recent controversy of Michelle Williams’ less than a $1000 reshoot payment for film All the Money in the World versus co-star Mark Wahlberg’s $1.5 million fee, the latter decided to donate his hefty earnings to support an organization that promotes the Time’s Up cause. The group subsidizes legal support for individuals who have experienced sexual harassment or related retaliation in the workplace.
“Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All the Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation. I 100% support the fight for fair pay and I’m donating the $1.5M to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’ name," the Forbes’ highest-paid male actor in 2017 said.
The actress responded to her co-star’s move, and quickly turns the spotlight away from her and towards the benefactors of the group. "Today isn’t about me. My fellow actresses stood by me and stood up for me, my activist friends taught me to use my voice, and the most powerful men in charge, they listened and they acted," remarks the 37-year-old.
Apart from Mark’s donation, his agency William Morris Endeavor adds another $500,000, totalling $2 million all in all. Michelle backed this generous support and credits the contributors as well as the community for the escalation of this feat.
WME stated, “It’s crucial that this conversation continues within our community and we are committed to being part of the solution.” With such influencers taking the first step, it’s truly a time to finally unburden ourselves of such transgression.
