Markus Paterson, Heaven Peralejo Paired For The First Time In "Maalaala Mo Kaya"

Drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya will feature two stories for its August slate: one episode that stars Markus Paterson and Heaven Peralejo, and another one that features Nonie Buencamino and Paolo Gumabao. 

For the first time, Markus Paterson and Heaven Peralejo will team up for the upcoming tale that follows an online romance. It opens with a relationship that was founded virtually by long-distance lovers—an engineer and a nurse. The other episode for the August showcase tackles the story of a father’s sacrifice for his family. Headlined by veteran talent Nonie Buencamino and rising actor Paolo Gumabao, the narrative revolves around a garbage collector and his son, who ended up as a sexual worker. 

In a recent media conference, the cast members were asked about how they better portray their characters and do justice to the roles.

For Markus, he shares: “Honestly, as actors, mayro’n kaming mga araw na may blockage kami, especially when it comes to giving the right emotion,” he opens. “There’re so many possibilities of emotional anchors and with acting, it’s an everlasting learning process. You’re just as good as your last project, and you’ll never stop learning about yourself and your capabilities, and more emotions will come with the experience,” the actor continues. Adhering to his belief that one should be true to himself in order to flesh out a string of emotions, Markus also points out, “I think it’s more important what’s really true to you—something that really brings you back down into yourself and into your emotions.”

Heaven, who is set to perform a role that is close to what happened to her in real life, talks about how the story resonated with her on a personal level. “I feel like I deserve a love that is very patient, especially when it comes to work, and at the same time, with my character in MMK. She deserves a patient guy, especially with her illness,” the actress notes. In her episode with Markus, she takes on the role of a nurse. “’Yung sobrang deep [na pagmamahal] na basta magtutulungan kayo pataas, hindi kayo maghihilahan pababa—’yung sobrang secure n’yo in a relationship na kahit hindi kayo magkasama, kahit long distance kayo, parang hindi n’yo na-fi-feel ’yun.”

Helmed by director Raymund Ocampo, Markus and Heaven’s episode will air on August 6, 2022 at 8PM, while Nonie and Paolo’s will premiere on August 20 at the same time slot on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC, TFC, and A2Z.
