It was a contract signing event fit for a Concert King.ABS-CBN made it clear how they celebrate Martin Nievera as a Kapamilya—like royalty.

The Concert King renewed his ties with the company with no less than key executives in attendance, including ABS-CBN Chairman Mark Lopez, President and COO Carlo Katigbak, COO Cory Vidanes, and CFO Rick Tan Jr.

Hosted by Bianca Gonzalez and Robi Domingo, the contract signing event paid tribute to the colorful 37 years of Martin Nievera with ABS-CBN. Apart from chronicling his career journey from singing to hosting, fellow musicians also graced the event performing Martin Nievera hits with Erik Santos and Darren Espanto singing “Say That You Love Me,” KZ Tandingan taking on “I’ll Be There for You,” and Bamboo serenading the audience with “Be My Lady.”

The music legend was visibly touched, saying, “Thank you so much to my Kapamilya. We didn’t really need to do this. I was a Kapamilya when we were still calling this the Sarimanok station, I was the sarimanok. Before the word Kapamilya was ever used, I was already Kapamilya.”

“I found my right home. There’s no place else to go but home and this is home for me. Now just so you know, I am a product of many great writers, amazing directors and people who believed in me. I take no credit for being up here onstage. I am a product of many people. I represent a great amount of talented people you don’t see so for me to sign this is my way of thanking them and glorifying their talents through me. Whatever you think you can do with me at this age, at this point of my career42 years in the business. It’s forever for me. We’ve been through so much together. We are survivors. Kapamilya is a survivor. Kapamilya is a fighter. Kapamilya is one who believes in the other,” Nievera remarked.

The OPM icon also took the opportunity to announce that he will be celebrating his 42nd anniversary in the business with a concert at The Big Dome (Smart Araneta Coliseum) on September 27, 2024. Details are still under wraps but the singer shared what he can for now.

“I will be having an Araneta Coliseum concert which I haven’t done in many, many years. I’ve been comfortable where I have been and I like the skin I’m in, but Ogie Alcasid seems to think that I could do big venues again so we’ll see. I told him even if 10 people show up, I will give the same show. He believes that I could fill up Araneta so I need the people to be there on September 27. There’s no guest list yet. We have nothing to announce [yet] but I’m trying to think of more things to make. Ogie Alcasid and Cacai Mitra are some of the people who are producing the show and who truly believe I can do it,” he shared.

Metro.Style asked him what he likes about performing today that he didn’t get to do in the past, the icon readily replied with his thoughts.“What I enjoy now that I didn’t enjoy before is not having to prove myself. 42 years in the business and I can finally get onstage, sing my songs, have a good time, enjoy the moment rather than trying to prove to everyone that I am the Concert King. That doesn’t matter to me anymore. It may matter to all of you that I keep that title, that I have to give a performance fit for a king [but] when I think of Concert King, the King is you. You are the King. The audience is King and I have to give a performance fit for a King. So when I’m onstage now after 42 years, it’s the best feeling ever. It’s my happy place. It’s more relaxed. Maybe a little more effort in the singing department because I’m a little older but the arrangements would help me with that,” Nievera fondly said.

Apart from shows and concerts, collaborations would also be a part of Martin Nievera’s future.“Collaborations are very in right now and I really, really would love to be a part of the new acts, the new singers, the new names, the new trending people—I would love to learn from them. Collabs is my next game plan,” he said.

He didn’t mention specific names but he welcomes opportunities to collaborate with the new and veteran artists alike.“Anyone, there’s no too small, too big, yesterday’s singers, today’s singers, soon to be singers, even one of my kids from The Voice Teens, even a concert with The Voice Teens, that’s my job, that’s my role,” Nievera added.

In true Martin Nievera fashion, he not only promised to be a Kapamilya forever but also to sing for eternity.“I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to be singing until you tell me to stop… until I become so god ugly and so bad at singing that you don’t want me on that stage,” he stated with his signature sense of humor.

Martin Nievera recently finished his job as one of the coaches for Season 3 of The Voice Teens Philippines and is currently a mainstay of ABS-CBN’s long-running musical variety show ASAP Natin ’To.
