Tonight, May 4, 2023, the time has finally come for Star Magic talents to celebrate in full house as they honor and embrace every body built. The event, “Hot Summer: LaHot Sexy,” promotes confidence in one’s own skin. In line with the summer event and advocacy is Star Magic’s collaboration with us through the traditional Metro Body campaign.

A regular execution by the Metro superbrand, Metro Body has been championing movements that inspire readers to not just care for and love their bodies but also be confident about themselves. This year, as a timely reminder for those who may be experiencing body shaming, bullying, or rejection, Metro and Star Magic teamed up to promote body positivity with anecdotes from artists, like Ria Atayde, about what they think of the campaign’s messaging based from their own experiences or self-love journeys.

Among the Star Magic artists who participated in the Star Magic x Metro Body photo shoot are Ria and Gela Atayde, Alexa Ilacad, Joseph Marco with his girlfriend Dasha Romanova, BGYO Gelo, BGYO Mikki, BGYO Nate, Karina Bautista, Luke Alford, Paolo Gumabao, Dalia Varde, Ashley del Mundo, Sophie Reyes, Cianne Dominguez, Mary Delle Cascabel, Enzo Almario, Mela Habijan, Anne Lorenzo, Raf Juane, Lucas Garcia, Igi Boy Flores, Jhaiho, Nonongn, Lie Reposposa, Seham Daghlas, Drey Brown, Izabel Reyes, Alexa Macanan, Beatriz Teves, and Xyriel Manabat. Couple JV Kapunan and Shaine Macela are parents-to-be, and the Metro Body shoot that showcased Shaine’s baby bump was also like their first family photo.

BGYO Nate, Gelo, and Mikki; Gela Atayde; and Coach Mickey - Nate: “My insecurity about my body growing up was being skinny. It’s hard to gain weight, so I would usually cover up with heavy clothing, but now, I’m starting to get used to it and comfortable with my own shape.” Kumbaga lahat tayo, sexy and beautiful.” | Mikki: “Ever since bata po ako, I've always been super payat, parang walang laman, parang kalansay (laughs). Pero, right now, hindi ko na masyado iniisip po, e. I’ve learned to love myself, my body shape. So for me, this campaign is perfect.”Dix Perez

Karina Bautista - Former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Karina Bautista figures in the promotion of body positivity in Metro Body x Star Magic campaign. Sizzling hot in her sensual wear, Karina will make waves in the “Hot Summer: LaHot Sexy” event as well.Dix Perez

Luke Alford - “PBB” alum Luke Alford is part of the Metro Body Special and Star Magic’s “Hot Summer: LaHot Sexy” gathering. The KUMU streamer is slated to slay in the runway of the summer event in support of embracing different body types.Dix Perez

Paolo Gumabao - Kapamilya model and actor Paolo Gumabao is making a splash in the Metro Body x Star Magic summer campaign. As a composite of the cause, Paolo participated in the photo shoot to show his support for the advocacy.Dix Perez

Alexa Ilacad - “I’m all for body positivity. It is a tough topic to talk about, but it should be talked about. So, I’m really happy that slowly but surely, we are getting around the topic, we are becoming more and more inclusive to every kind of body,” Alexa comments on Star Magic’s summer movement. She also talked about her insecurities and how she copes with them, saying, “It's not an easy journey. It’s something I personally struggle with. But honestly, therapy has really helped me really open my mind and helped me think kinder thoughts. I’m very blessed to have such a great support system who uplifts me every time and reminds me of how beautiful I am. And the beauty that I sometimes can’t see, they show me.”Seven Barretto

Ashley Del Mundo, Dalia Varde, and Sophie Reyes - Ashley: 'I think Star Magic holding this event is a great way to spread the message that we should all be comfortable in whatever type of body we have.' | Sophie: 'No matter what size, what your color is… No one is perfect. You find perfection in yourself.' | Dalia: 'Here, we're showing all our flaws… It's pushing us to be even more confident… 'Yung insecurities, you can't just get rid of it overnight. It takes time. That's why this event is perfect 'cause it's all about acceptance.' Seven Barretto

Cianne Dominguez and Mary Delle Cascabel - Cianne: “Personally, I’m very, very happy dahil sa advocacy na ginagawa nila. Super, super saya ko kasi ako din, personally, parang meron din akong mga insecurities sa sarili ko na kailangan ko ding i-overcome. Happy talaga ko na parang napapakita ko na siya ngayon—nafe-flex, kumbaga.” | Mary Delle: “I think it’s really exciting ‘cause I think there’s a lot of people out there who really need that kind of empowerment—body empowerment. Also, I believe the kind of confidence that radiates to other people as well, so Star Magic doing this is really exciting for us and to be able to be part of that is really overwhelming. It makes us happy kasi part kami ng magandang advocacy ng Star Magic.”Seven Barretto

Enzo Almario, Mela Habijan, Anne Lorenzo, Raf Juane, and Lucas Garcia - Enzo: “For me, napaka-importante ng ganitong klaseng campaign and I admire Star Magic for having this kind of ball kasi sobrang kailangan natin ‘to. Kasi in my own experience, nagkaroon din ako ng paniniwala before na ‘dapat ganito ‘yung katawan ko, dapat ganiyan,’ until nasugod talaga ko sa ospital and after that, I made sure na hindi ko napapabayaan ‘yung sarili ko na hindi ako kakain just to fit the norm.” | Mela: “I think it’s very interesting that in 2023, we’re able to celebrate all types of bodies—all types of beauties. And this speaks inclusivity, which is what we need right now. We need everyone to learn how to accept our flaws, our beauty. We need to accept each and every body. We need to accept that there are differences.” | Anne: “I’m very happy that Star Magic created this kind of event, which is to promote body positivity and diversity. Kasi before, during the pandemic, I gained so much weight. Parang nag-gain ako nang sobra. Umabot ako ng 70 kilos and sobrang na-bash ako sa internet. They called me ‘aparador,’ ‘refrigerator,’ and I’m a beauty queen. So, every time na sumasali ako sa pageant, ‘yun ‘yung sinasabi—na I am not fit. So, I’m very happy that nowadays, sine-celebrate na natin ‘yung different shapes, different body types. Napakagandang step or move ‘to para sa Star Magic.” | Raf: “I think it’s beautiful. Actually, kinukuwento ko sa mga pamangkin ko na they are so lucky and blessed, actually, to be living in this age. Kasi ako, nu’ng time ko nu’n, lagi ng merong standards of beauty, e, but now, everybody’s considered beautiful so I think it’s very commendable na ‘yun ‘yung topic natin.” This time, meron nang ABS-CBN or Star Magic ‘Bikini Ball.’ Happy ako na magkakalabasan hindi lang ng katawan dito kundi ng kumpiyansa sa sarili.”Seven Barretto

Igi Boy Flores, Jhaiho, Nonong, and Lie Reposposa - Igi Boy: “Important na maging healthy. S’yempre magkakaiba tayo ng built ng katawan. May iba na malalapad talaga, may iba na matatangkad. Basta maging healthy pa rin, ‘yun naman ang importante.” | Jhaiho: “Isa sa pinanghahawakan na slogan or motto ng lahat ngayon ‘pag pinag-uusapan ang body positivity is: ‘your body, your rules.’ Nakakatuwa na sa panahon ngayon一may iilan pa rin na talagang judgmental base sa physical appearance一pero ngayon, mas pinanghahawakan na ‘yung, halimbawa, sa ating mga comedians, sabi nga nila, ‘funny is the new sexy.’ It depends on how you offer or present yourself para masabing sexy ka.” | Lie: “Lahat naman tayo may iba’t-ibang kagandahan一mataba ka man, payat ka man, maputi or maitim, basta accept mo ‘yung skin mo, body mo. Kung sino ka, maging confident ka lang.” | Nonong: “Kailangan mo rin alagaan ang sarili mo, na bilang maligo ka rin ‘di ba? Du’n mo rin mabu-boost ‘yung confidence mo. Kung feeling mo ‘di ka pogi ngayon, at least mabango ka!”Seven Barretto

Seham Daghlas, Drey Brown, Izabel Reyes, Alexa Macanan, and Beatriz Teves - Seham: 'I'm also a very big advocate for body positivity, and I love spreading the message of self-love… Growing up, I really had an insecurity with my body 'cause I'm half-Arab so I have more of a bigger built as compared to the typical body type. For the most part of my life, I was somewhat body-shamed, so I was insecure about it. But now, I love my body. I love who I am.' | Drey: 'I still have a lot [of insecurities], but I'm trying to work on it at my age. So it's been a long journey. I'm sure a lot of people are going through this too, so we've got each other. | Izabel: 'We can also encourage people to stop body shaming… When I was younger din, I had so many insecurities, pero growing up kasi, nand'yan 'yung family mo eh who encourage you. Self-love. Accept mo 'yan lahat, so parang ngayon, wala na.' | Alexa: I think it's about time, especially on social media, that we should be open to body positivity and support each other whether it may be men, women, or part of the LGBT community as well… I got bullied back in high school because they called me flat-chested. I was so conscious about it. There was a time I had to put fillers 'cause the bullying was so bad. Before, wala kang ganitong campaign or advocacy talking about how important this is to children. They should not be conscious of their bodies. It's important to hear it from people who had the same experiences before, na 'it's okay, you're fine.'' | Beatriz: 'I'm really happy that Star Magic is doing this because it's about time also that we show it on mainstream or any platforms… it's definitely an advocacy that people should follow… We should be proud of who we are.'Seven Barretto

Xyriel Manabat - “It's very exciting! Sobrang ganda nu’ng thought and heart na meron ‘yung event na ito kasi it’s about empowerment. Kailangan natin ito lahat kasi ang dami ngayong ang baba ng self-esteem, ang baba ng self-confidence, so with this, I feel like we’re supporting them and we’re giving them voices,” Xyriel says of Star Magic's body positivity campaign, adding that she still has insecurities up to now but that she feels accepting them is a process she has to go through. “I have to endure it. I have to learn to embrace my body, to embrace my face and not call them flaws but accept and appreciate what I have.”Seven Barretto

JV Kapunan and Shaine Macela - JV: “It’s a great advocacy, to give confidence to any type of body shape. Alam naman natin na may standard ang mga tao na ‘if you’re not thin, you're not in,’ but it’s okay to be whoever you want to be,” JV says, adding that he used to be insecure about his man boobs but that he didn’t resort to undergoing a surgery for it. “I think it's about discipline and the journey of getting your body in shape.”

Gela and Ria Atayde - Gela: “To those experiencing the same problem as me, just know that you’re not alone. A lot of us are going through the same thing and if you ever need someone to talk to, find someone you can confide in. Also, I guess it’s easier said than done, but be yourself. Accept your body. Just remember that you are your biggest critic. Sometimes, it’s all in your head.” | Ria: “First off, don’t be bothered by the noise. People would say a lot of things, especially [that] people feel so entitled to comment about your body, but that’s yours and as long as you’re able to embrace it, celebrate it, then you’re fine. You should not let other people’s opinions of you and how you look affect you. I know it’s easier said than done, but really, acceptance starts from within. If you’re able to accept and embrace yourself, then everyone else will because it will shine. Really, it’s what’s inside that matters. Don’t forget that.”Seven Barretto

Dasha Romanova and Joseph Marco - Dasha: “I think it’s really nice that people now think about healthy stuff more and accept who they are. Little by little, it’s going to be in our lives more than before. And actually, thank you, COVID! It has really helped us to realize some things about our health and our body.” | Joseph: “I think it’s nice, especially now that lots of people are getting interested in becoming healthy. It’s actually a good awareness [campaign] for a healthier lifestyle and it’s good to inspire people who are not really into healthy stuff yet.”Seven Barretto
