These Metro Cover Girls Paid Tribute To ABS-CBN As It Went Off Air

Bea Alonzo, Judy Ann Santos, and Kim Chiu are some of the beautiful Kapamilya faces who have graced Metro's covers—here are their heartfelt messages for ABS-CBN

Last night, in a chilling event in Philippine history, ABS-CBN was forced to go off air as the National Telecommunications Commission issued a cease and desist order against the country's largest broadcast network, which signed off at around 7:30 in the evening, right after news program TV Patrol

ABS-CBN Corporation employs around 11,000 people, who were stunned to find out that the company they have grown to know as their second home is being shaken at its core, inevitably facing trying times ahead.

The overwhelming outpour of support and love on social media was apparent as the television screen faded to black, with #NotoABSCBNShutdown becoming the top 1 trending topic on Twitter all evening. This included tribute messages from METRO magazine cover girls, the likes of Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, Bea Alonzo, Kim Chiu, Angel Locsin, Agot Isidro, and more.

METRO, being a part of ABS-CBN's 66-year history, just turned 30 years old last year, and part of the celebration was a special series of covers featuring thirty women who have graced the magazine's covers in the past. A part of the anniversary special was a print edition wherein Kim, Judy Ann, and Bea led the pack of brilliant women METRO has ever put on its covers.

Being true blue Kapamilyas, these METRO cover girls expressed their sentiments over the shutdown that has taken the country by surprise. We've seen them in countless iconic teleseryes, big-screen hits, magazine covers, and everything in between, and to see the channel we all grew up with go off air practically meant we would not be seeing these actresses on the small screen in quite a long time.

While they fervently pray for ABS-CBN to once again be granted the franchise to go on air, they are armed with a treasure trove of memories of channel 2—one that they can always look back on. For now, they keep their hopes up, and keep their head high until they see a brighter day.

Bakit ngayon??

It is heartbreaking to hear that our company, received a cease and desist order from NTC in the middle of this worldwide crisis. 11,000 people are now afraid that they may lose their jobs and won’t be able to just apply for another job to feed their families because our industry is very small, there are not so many options for us, and given the circumstances, how can they go out and find a source of income to put food on the table using their skill set? The Filipinos around the world need our service. Fifteen million people tune in to ABS-CBN every day to get updated with the latest news and to be entertained wherever they may be. We bring the Philippines into their homes. We even encourage them to practice Bayanihan in these trying times. The Philippines will never be the same without ABSCBN, Our lives will never be the same without our KAPAMILYA network. We are asking for compassion. People are dying, people are starving and the last thing that we want right now is to see these 11,000 people (or more) face the uncertainties of tomorrow without a job to hold on to and a family, ABS-CBN, to run to. We heal as one. Let us heal as one. Let us hope and pray for a better tomorrow.🙏🏻 #IStandWithAbsCbn

You’ve been home since I was a child. At 6 or 7 years old, running up and down your hallways, rollerblading around the studio lot, I would wait for my mom to finish recording and taping her show. I’d be peeping into the studio doors to watch artists film on set, always wishing I was one of them. And at 23, after intense acting/dance workshops and language training, officially, that dream happened. ♥️💚💙 . I grew up with you behind the scenes, even helping writers make their ‘idiot boards’ with the scent of markers that filled the room, and eventually you gave me my own wings and trusted me with your shows as an artist-tv host... A huge part of who I am today is because of you. ✨ From making my dream drama-docu concept a reality with KC: FROM PARIS TO PINAS, to hosting talk / reality talent search / music shows: X FACTOR PH, BINIBINING PILIPINAS, THE BUZZ, SIMPLY KC, STAR CIRCLE QUEST KIDS, to performing on ASAP, tv series IKAW LAMANG, HUWAG KA LANG MAWAWALA, LOVERS IN PARIS, and my very first hit film FOR THE FIRST TIME shot in Santorini, Greece. You have been my home and more. You changed me, taught me, trained me, opened my eyes, taught me about life, gave me purpose, helped make me fly. THANK YOU. Maraming salamat, my ABSCBN family. . I can’t imagine Philippine TV without you and our Kapamilya on camera and production teams, show runners and crews that make up the machine. It blows my mind how we literally woke up one day and everything changed. 🤯 Dear God, may we see Your hand in all of this ♥️ I love you Kapamilya. Maraming salamat mga Kapamilya sa pag tanggap nyo sa amin sa inyong mga tahanan. Ang dami dami na natin pinagdaanan together. Maraming nagbabago, pero may mga bagay na hindi nagbabago. Tayo parin ‘to. 😊 xx, K. #intheserviceofthefilipinoworldwide
