With the theme 'Balik Saya sa MMFF 2022,' there is a noticeably renewed interest in the moviegoing experience for Filipinos, as the pandemic lockdowns saw theaters temporarily shutting down. As a result, the 2020 edition was held virtually, while last year's festival had restrictions both in cinema capacity and public activities. This year, it was a full-scale return to cinemas and the Parade of Stars was also held last December 21 with the traditional motorcade of floats.
