Michelle Dee Reigns Supreme in Miss Universe 2023’s “Voice for Change”
After leading the Fan Vote contest, the Philippine representative is now on the top spot of the “Voice for Change” category
Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Marquez Dee is currently on the top spot of Miss Universe 2023’s “Voice for Change.” The category focuses on the delegates’ personal advocacies and allows them to promote the causes that they are championing through a three-minute clip. It also serves as a collaboration between the Miss Universe organization, luxury jewelry and watch brand Mouawad, and communications platform CI Talks.
In her official entry, the 28-year-old actress-beauty queen, who has siblings on the autism spectrum, encouraged the public to help spread autism acceptance. “Today, I’m about to talk about something that is very close to my heart and that is towards autism acceptance, inclusivity, and empowerment,” she said in the video. “I’m a sister with two incredible siblings who are on the autism spectrum—Adam and Mazenne.”
For years, Michelle, too, has been able to serve as the Goodwill Ambassador of Autism Society Philippines (ASP), which is Southeast Asia’s largest autism non-governmental organization. Here, she was witness to the milestones of the group and their impact on many lives that turned out to be meaningful. “It’s a testament to what is possible when we prioritize inclusivity and harnessing the untapped potential of these individuals,” the Philippines’ bet added.
Ahead of the 72nd Miss Universe competition, Michelle left the country on October 31 and made a pit stop in Los Angeles, California, USA before flying to El Salvador. Prior to claiming the top spot in “Voice for Change,” Michelle made an impression as well, earning the viewers’ support and landing First Place in the Fan Vote contest. Her “first day high” was also an enjoyable experience, making her even prouder of the Philippines.
On Michelle’s Instagram account, she gave an update on how her Miss Universe 2023 journey is faring so far. Her preliminary activities seem to be going well for her, and she can’t help but gush with pride over what she’s doing. “[I] spent the day doing fittings, registration, and of course, getting to know all of the girls!” she captioned a recent post. “[I] was so happy to see some of my kababayans here as well!”
Michelle Dee is vying for the Philippines’ fifth Miss Universe crown, and will attempt to follow in the footsteps of Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1973 Margarita “Margie” Moran, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray on November 19 at the much-awaited Coronation Night. Should she win the prestigious title, Michelle will succeed USA’s R’Bonney Gabriel.
