What an all-star cast! Eight of Hollywood's most stellar female celebrities have come together for the much-awaited heist comedy film, Ocean's 8, directed by Gary Ross. The movie premiered with a fabulous red carpet event that was like their own version of the Met Gala.

The annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City—whose 2018 event had the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" for its theme and was considered "fashion's biggest night"—is actually where the movie's plot revolves around: a group of women plans to rob the Met Gala.

Ocean's 8, which features an all-female main cast, is a spin-off of the Ocean's Trilogy, directed by Steven Soderbergh: Ocean's Eleven (2001), Ocean's Twelve (2004), Ocean's Thirteen (2007). Starring in the trilogy were George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Brad Pitt, Bernie Mac, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle, and Sandra Bullock.

There were said to be two main reasons why a fourth film, Ocean's Fourteen, didn't push through: 1) Steven was quoted saying that George wanted "to go out strong" with the third film and 2) one of its cast members, Bernie, passed away in 2008 reportedly due to complications of pneumonia.

In lieu of this, the Ocean's 8 all-female reboot was conceptualized and was in development since late 2015.
