Her father is also an actor.
If Philippine's name (pronounced Philip-een) strikes a cord in you, that's because she's the daughter of renowned French and Italian actor Philippe Leroy-Beaulieu. Her father, who was a soldier before switching to acting, has starred in at least 140 films since beginning his acting career in the early 60s. She's the only person in their family who entered the entertainment industry. Philippine's 29-year-old daughter doesn't have plans of doing what her mom and her grandpa did as actors.

Her parents didn't want her to become an actress.
Strangely enough, despite his glowing resume as an actor, Philippine's father didn't exactly encourage her to become an actress. Her mom felt the same and wasn't 100% supportive of the idea. They preferred that she follow a more traditional route for her professional life, but at 16, Philippine took her rebellion to the next level and moved to Paris to defy her parents' wishes. There, she began her formal training in drama after spending much of her childhood and early adolescence in Italy. She has zero regrets about chasing her dreams to become an actress, despite the choice coming with a host of problems and challenges along the way.

She started her acting career at 19.
Philippine officially launched her acting career in 1982 at the age of 19. Like many aspiring actresses, she started with roles in short films, made for TV movies, and mini series, slowly making her way to big screen projects and leading roles. It was in the 1990s when her career really took off, and she became a fixture in French cinema. Her onscreen work has mostly been limited to French productions; it's not often that Philippine stars in English-language films and TV shows, making her "Emily in Paris" casting all the more prized by fans of the show.

"Emily in Paris" isn't Philippine's first Netflix project.
In fact, she gained international recognition for another Netflix original titled "Call My Agent!", a dramedy about talent managers desperately trying to save their talent agency after its founder dies. The French-language series has Philippine play the role of Catherine Barneville, whose aura doesn't stray far from that of Sylvie from "Emily in Paris." "Call My Agent!" is in the middle of its 4th season and is streaming on Netflix Philippines, so why not line it up on your watchlist?

She's happy to see more and more female leads/heroines on both the big and small screens.
Looking back at all the roles she's played in her career that's spanned over 35 years, she's glad to see French cinema and television finally shine the spotlight on female leads/heroines. Women in the industry have waited too long to become onscreen role models for female audiences, but she's happy that the change has arrived, however late.

She's got great titles in her filmography—here are our recommendations!
If you had to choose just a few titles from Philippine's filmography to get better acquainted with her, don't miss "Natalia" (she played the titular character and the film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival), "Mistral's Daughter" (an American TV series adapted from the novel of the same name and the project that introduced Philippine to North American audiences), and "Neuf mois" (a comedy that helped solidify Philippine as an actress with great coming timing - a big plus for landing the role of Sylvie!).

She epitomizes the stylish French woman.
With "Emily in Paris" still dominating social media feeds, the trend has been accompanied by a consensus that Philippine is taking as a compliment - many have repeatedly said that the real style star of the show isn't its titular star, Lily Collins, but Sylvie herself who truly embodies the true Parisian woman. As stone--cold as her character Sylvie might be, Philippine's looks on the show are red hot and make 57 look amazing!
