Pia Wurtzbach Vows to Continue Her Support for the LGBTQIA+ Community

The beauty queen-model will even auction some of her personal items to help build a youth center in Taguig

Miss Universe 2018 Pia Wurtzbach is a staunch supporter of many causes, and that includes championing equality and inclusivity. In fact, just last Saturday, she joined the Pride Night in Quezon City.

On Instagram, Pia shared her thoughts on being an ally. She also reassured everyone that she will continue fighting for equal rights. “I couldn’t think of a better way of celebrating 10 years since the Miss Universe crown by giving back and making sure this advocacy has a dedicated space,” she captioned her post.

In the photos and clips she posted, she is seen waving the Pride flag on stage. “Ang sayang tingnan na nagsasama-sama tayo for this June 1 kick-off ng Pride Month,” she said during her speech. “I’m so proud to be here, to be with all of you.”

Maraming salamat din sa lahat ng mga allies, at sana dumami pa tayo. You know, it doesn’t take a superstar or kind of an influencer para maging makabuluhan ‘yung ginagawa mo,” the beauty queen-model continued. “Simulan natin ‘yan sa bahay. ‘Wag tayong pumayag na gawing biro, na gumagamit ng mga slurs. Tanggalin na natin ‘yan. Hindi na dapat ‘yan tanggap ngayon.”

“This is a community for all. It’s not a ‘you versus me.’ It’s ‘us.’ If you feel naah, wala namang matutulong ‘to,’ hindi, because ‘yung tinutulungan mo na ‘yan, lalakas ang loob niyan na isang araw, siya naman ang may matutulungang iba.”

Meanwhile, in collaboration with local government units and LoveYourself, Inc.—a platform dedicated to delivering sexual health, mental health, and transhealth services, Pia is set to take on “ensuring safety and happiness.” She announced at the gathering that she will be auctioning some of her most prized gowns and memorabilia to help build a youth center in Taguig.

Ang dami nila. Sabi ko, ‘ano bang gagawin ko sa mga ‘to?’ Minsan, tinitingnan ko lang ta’s ibabalik ko rin naman sa cabinet. Sayang. Nagkaroon ako ng idea na ipa-auction ‘to this year, at lahat nu’ng proceeds, gagawin namin, magtatayo kami ng youth center,” she declared.

“It’s been 10 years since Miss Universe,” Pia looked back. “Siyempre mayru’n siyang sentimental value sa ‘kin, pero what could be better than for me to put it back into the advocacy? It would make me so happy if we could build a youth center where we help keep people alive, we help keep people happy.”
