The 34-year-old sustained injuries when she tripped and fell on a flight of stairs in her home in Nashville in November. Carrie initially let the public know that she was doing well and just nursing a broken wrist that required her to undergo physical therapy, but a recent open letter she wrote to her fan club reveals the full extent of the accident.

Carrie writes, "In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

Fans were shocked at the revelation of the severity of her injuries, and many wondered how Carrie would move forward in a career that required her to be in front of the camera. Fortunately, the singer has decided to be strong about the situation and is "determined to make 2018 amazing."

In the same letter, Carrie continues, "I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse."

Carrie hasn't posted any photos of herself yet since the accident happened seven weeks ago, except for an Instagram photo that showed her wearing a thick scarf that concealed most of her face and neck. The only other photo of Carrie that has surfaced is one with Adrienne Gang, the star of the first season of Bravo's Below Deck, from when the two ran into each other during a workout session. No noticeable scars or marks are visible, and the blonde beauty seems to be recovering very well.

Believing in positivity and having the will to keep going, Carrie concludes, "I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way.”

Having taken a voluntary break from the music scene, the singer chose to spend more time with her husband and son in 2017 after an almost year-long tour in 2016 that promoted her most recent album, Storyteller. Fans will be glad to know that this unfortunate incident has not deterred her from making new music as she is set to hit the studio in one to two weeks' time.
