Regine Velasquez started afresh with ABS-CBN as she signed a new contract with the network. The Asia’s Songbird, who marked her 35th year in the music and entertainment industry, enthused over the overwhelming blessings abound her way. According to her, while she is blessed enough to even ask for more, she is also looking forward to a lineup of projects.

In attendance at the “Solid Kapamilya: Network Contract Signing” affair were ABS-CBN executives Mark Lopez, Carlo Katigbak, Cory Vidanes, Laurenti Dyogi, and Rick Tan. Regine’s manager and sister Cacai Mitra made it to the event as well to witness Regine’s exclusive contract signing with the company.

Maraming-maraming salamat sa pagbibigay sa akin ng pagkakataon to be here—[na] ma-experience kong maging Kapamilya ulit,” she began, addressing her bosses. “Parang nabuhayan ako ulit, e. Naging exciting ulit para sa akin. Bumalik ako sa pagkanta, which is my first love naman talaga.”

“I’m also recording my first album under Star Music, so abangan n’yo ’yan. There are many exciting projects coming up,” the well-loved diva continued. When asked what being a Kapamilya means to her, she boldly said: “After the pandemic and everything that happened to all of us, parang somehow, being a Kapamilya has a different meaning for me now.”

Parang it has become deeper. Kasi even up to now, we still struggle, you know? Pero kahit na nakikita ko na may kaunti pa ring ganu’n, we still do our best to serve the people the best way we all can,” Regine highlighted, sharing how ABS-CBN’s challenges in the past have changed her perspective.

She then thanked the ABS-CBN leaders whom she looks up to. “Iba rin kayo, ha. Kahit medyo alam kong hirap kayo, you’re still doing your best so that you can provide jobs for all of us, and that’s a big thing for me,” her heartfelt message goes. Regine mused, harking back to her beginnings with the corporation.

It was in October 2018 when Regine inked a contract with ABS-CBN for the first time following her stint of 20 years with GMA. “Hindi na lang ito trabaho. Being a Kapamilya is not just like another contract that I have to sign or another job that I have to do,” she stated. “Being a Kapamilya is so much deeper for me right now because of what we all had to go through.”

Regine also expressed her appreciation toward a life of productivity. “As far as my career’s concerned, I’m really just trying to continue whatever it is I started kasi parang I was very, very blessed to have been able to do everything I wanted—na binigyan ako ng pagkakataon na maging artista kahit na hindi ako sure kung marunong akong umarte,” she laughed.

Hindi pa ako sure nu’ng time na ’yun. I became a host also. I was given all the right opportunities by the right people so sa ngayon, parang I can’t really think of anything else. I’m just really very, very thankful. If you guys noticed,” she told the audience, “parang mas kumakanta ko, kasi ’yun talaga ’yung gusto kong gawin.”

When Regine’s activities in entertainment finally resumed, she found herself even more motivated to pursue her passion all over again. “When I rested for a while—when I got pregnant—I somehow missed it very, very much. And so now, I just want to concentrate on singing, doing concerts. And I love doing ASAP.”

“’Yun ang gusto kong gawin lang, although pangarap ko pa ring maging bold star,” she joked, smashing the quiet and rather serious environment in the set. “Pero parang hindi pa rin ako binibigyan ng chance ng ABS so I don’t know, baka ilagay na sa kontrata ngayon. Hindi man lang sexy star. Bold star, oo. Ang luma!”

Regine is rendering her time as a host in the Kapamilya talk show Magandang Buhay with Jolina Magdangal and Melai Cantiveros. She, too, served as a member of the panel in musical and singing competition Idol Philippines, and is seen on performance and variety program ASAP Natin ’To.
