Rica Peralejo On Getting Kids To Love The Outdoors

In a brief conversation with this celebrity mom at Soffell's launch, Rica talked about her love for camping, hiking, and the outdoors, as well as the places she wants to travel to with her kids

The love for outdoors is something that actress and digital content creator Rica Peralejo is glad she shares with her children, Philip and Manu. She has always loved being one with nature even before she got married. It was a trip to Mount Pulag that sparked her love for hiking and camping, so this place tops her list of places she wants to travel to with her kids.

As someone who many moms look up to, Rica is all about maximizing her platform for sharing tips and lessons to her fellow parents. "Lagi kong sinasabi sa parents na ''wag kayong matakotKailangan ng mga bata na lumabas and kailangan niyo rin 'yan para sa sanity niyo," she told ABS-CBN News during Soffell's recent "Protektodo Day"event at the Glorietta Palm Drive Activity Center.

Soffell, regarded to be the #1 Mosquito-Repellent Lotion in SEA, has finally arrived in the Philippines! The product is made from natural ingredients, has vitamin E, and is safe on the skin. Soffell is also easy to apply without the sticky feeling, perfect for the tropical weather of the Philippines. It comes in three aromatic scents (Appely, Pinky, and Orangee), and is dermatologically tested to moisturize the skin.

Soffell is a brand that encourages everyone to enjoy the outdoors while staying protected from diseases such as Dengue, Malaria, and Zika. Rica feels that Soffell's advocacy of pushing for outdoor times for families is aligned with what she also believes in. The same advocacy, she says, is something she embraced even more when she gave birth to her first son almost nine years  ago.

"I think it's innate in children to want to be dirty… Matatawa ka sa mga bata 'di ba," she told Metro.Style, expounding on the importance of exposing kids to the outdoors. "But over time kasi, because they've become so cared for, linis ka nang linis, after a while, they develop this 'I don't wanna be uncomfortable anymore' 'di ba. So maarte over time sa kakaalaga mo sa kanila. I feel like it's a mix of it's natural in them and you have to keep creating experiences that will help them feel okay about it and feel like this is natural. This is actually what my body needs."

Rica, who loves camping with her family, says that that form of outdoor recreation reminds her of the basic things in life and can serve like a "reset" for families. "Being in the tent, cooking your food, and just basically being removed from your everyday life, but being immersed with that kind of nature," Rica shared what she loves about camping in a brief conversation with ABS-CBN News. "I'm not saying this is bad ha'yung mga nag-che-check in or nagho-hotel staycation or even grand vacation elsewhere, I'm also like that, I do that. But from time to time, hindi mawawala sa'min 'yung camping. 'Yung parang malapit na malapit ka lang sa lupa. It literally is very grounding for you to be actually on the soil, on earth." Given the privileges that many kids enjoy these days, Rica feels like activities like camping also helps train kids on resiliency and grit. She added, "Sometimes, we have to be the ones to make a challenge in our child's life."

When we asked her about the places that tops her family travel bucket list, she named our very own Mount Pulag first ("because it's that mountain that made me fall in love with hiking and the outdoors," she says). "I also want to bring them to Mount Kinabalu [in Malaysia]. I also want to bring them to Machu Picchu [in Peru]. Annapurna Circuit [in Nepal], so that's kind of like near Mount Everest. Wala akong plans mag-Everest pero 'yung Annapurna kasi is a circuit and it goes through many towns, so I want them to feel the life of walking for, like, 8-12 days. I don't know if I'll do it with them kaagad or if I'll do it by myself first."
