Could "Eve's Scandal" Be Seo Ye-Ji's Post-Scandal K-Drama Comeback?
The "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" lead actress might make a small screen comeback after figuring in a controversy involving her ex-boyfriend Kim Jung-hyun
Seo Ye-ji might make her K-drama comeback through tvN's Eve's Scandal!
The It's Okay to Not Be Okay actress' most loyal fans must be so thrilled to see their favorite Korean actress make headlines again for a possible project. The actress has remained silent about the relationship scandal she got involved in, save for a short post on her official fan cafe wherein she wrote, "It is something that makes me feel good, knowing there are people that believe in me."
In April this year, Seo Ye-ji figured in a controversy when Korean media outlet Dispatch published a report on the actress' alleged manipulation of her ex-boyfriend Kim Jung-hyun's behavior; that reportedly caused him to act rudely on the set of his 2018 drama, Time, with actress Seohyun (Girls' Generation). The report also showed a series of text messages supposedly exchanged by the former couple.
When this controversy blew up and issues of Seo Ye-ji's alleged past school violence surfaced, the brands she was endorsing cut ties with her. Following the major backlash, the 31-year-old actress then withdrew from the drama Island. She didn't attend the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards the month after, too; she was nominated as Best Actress for K-drama It's Okay to Not Be Okay and given the Tiktok Popularity Award.
It seems hard to recover from this kind of scandal, so it's fascinating to find out that Seo Ye-ji might be given a chance to act again.
As reported by Munhwa Ilbo, Seo Ye-ji was offered the lead role for the upcoming tvN drama Eve's Scandal. Later on, her agency, Gold Medalist, confirmed with MK Sports that she indeed received the offer, and is currently reviewing it. The series, written by Yoon Young-mi (of Birth of a Beauty and The Good Witch), is reportedly set to be aired in the first half of 2022.
Should things work out and Seo Ye-ji agrees to do this project, she will breathe life into the character of a woman caught in the enter of a controversial 2 trillion won divorce lawsuit, after her failed marriage with a corporate group's CEO. According to MK Sports, "the character was born to a genius father and a beautiful mother, but is transformed into a 'dangerous flower' with fatal charm after going through an unfortunate family history."
Seo Ye-ji's other K-dramas were 2018's Lawless Lawyer, 2017's Save Me, and 2016's Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth and Moorim School: Saga of the Brave. She was last seen in the mystery-thriller film Recalled released last April.
