Seo Ye-Ji Wins TikTok Popularity Award At 57th Baeksang Arts Awards
She was also nominated as Best Actress for the K-drama "It's Okay to Not Be Okay." However, she couldn't attend the event "due to personal reasons"
Seo Ye-ji was nominated for Best Actress in the TV division at this year's 57th Baeksang Arts Awards, for K-drama It's Okay to Not Be Okay. However, she couldn't attend the event "due to personal reasons," as announced by her agency, Gold Medalist.
By "personal reasons," it is assumed that the decision to not attend the awards show was due to the recent controversy she figured in with her ex-boyfriend Kim Jung-hyun. Seo Ye-ji was accused of "manipulating" her then boyfriend by telling him to avoid skinship with his Time leading lady Seohyun, and have the scripts revised to ensure there would be no physical contact between the two. Later on, as the issue got bigger and bigger, Seo Ye-ji was also accused of being a perpetrator of school violence and lying about her educational background.
Despite that controversy, there's no denying that Seo Ye-ji deserved to be nominated as Best Actress (TV) at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards for her role as Ko Mun-yeong in It's Okay to Not Be Okay, one of the most popular K-dramas of 2020. She breathed life into the character of a bestselling children's book author with an antisocial personality disorder.
That healing drama—which paired her with 57th Baeksang Arts Awards Best Actor (TV) nominee Kim Soo-hyun—boosted her popularity so much so it paved the way for her talent to be recognized by award-giving bodies. It's Okay to Not Be Okay gave her her first acting awards. The latest award she received for it was the TikTok Popularity Award (Female) at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards, the recipient of which was determined through fan votes. When the voting ended last May 10, Seo Ye-ji earned the most number of votes at 780,000. This just shows that despite the controversy she's facing, she still has a lot of supporters who believe in her and are hoping for her comeback.
Kim Seon-ho from Start-Up, on the other hand, received the TikTok Popularity Award (Male).
Following the controversy, the promos of her recently-released movie Recalled were also affected. Considering the circumstances, her movie did okay, and even ranked number 1 at the Korean box office on the day it was released. She, however, decided to withdraw from the upcoming series Island.
Seo Ye-ji was voted by fans as the Most Beautiful Korean Actress at our beauty campaign last year, earning a total of 1,249,630 votes.
Congratulations on your TikTok Popularity Award, Seo Ye-ji!
