WATCH: The Sexiest Outfits At The ABS-CBN Ball 2019

Here are our picks for the sexiest Modern Filipiniana outfits

There are essentially two surefire ways for a female celebrity to command attention on a red carpet event such as the Star Magic Ball or the ABS-CBN Ball. It's either she wears something that's extremely grand, big, and lavish (remember Kim Chiu's white ball gown by the late Pepsi Herrera at the Star Magic Ball in 2013?) or an extremely sexy number (say, for example, Julia Barretto's Paris Hilton- and Kendall Jenner-esque sparkly mini dress by Mark Bumgarner, which featured a plunging neckline and a backless detail, at the ABS-CBN Ball last year).

When it comes to this annual Ball, it's always expected that many stars would turn up in sexy gowns—think daring necklines, figure-hugging silhouettes, revealing cuts, see-through fabric, higher-than-thigh-high slits, bare-back designs, and other details and executions that don't leave much to the imagination.

With "Modern Filipiniana" defined as this year's dress code, many fashion stylists confessed that it was a bit challenging to interject that modern style sensibility into the traditional clothing. Above everything else, they needed to make sure they wouldn't, in any way, disrespect the culture and heritage that come with the history of Filipiniana. It was also important that, without saying a word, they get to communicate a message about how the baro't-saya, Maria Clara (sometimes known as the mestiza), Balintawak, terno, barong, or the other traditional Filipiniana styles can still be relevant with some of-the-moment tweaks and treatments.

Interestingly, even though celebrities like Arci Muñoz, Bea Alonzo, Coleen Garcia, Cristine ReyesDawn Chang, Denise Laurel, Gretchen Ho, Kylie Verzosa, Lala Vinzon, Pia Wurtzbach, and Sue Ramirez all wore noticeably sexy outfits, it also cannot be denied that there were so much creativity and innovation that went on behind the making of their red carpet ensembles. They all highlighted the talent of our local fashion designers in giving the well-loved styles of the olden days a bold, sharp, and chic reinvention that spoke volumes about the beauty and richness of our traditions.
