The Philippine Showbiz Industry Mourns The Death Of Veteran Director Maryo J. Delos Reyes, Celebrities Pay Tribute To Him On Social Media

Award-winning, critically-acclaimed, veteran film and TV director Maryo J. delos Reyes died last January 27 at the age of 65 due to heart attack at Dakak Resort in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

With a career that spanned more than three decades, he is considered one of the greatest directors and pillars in Philippine cinema. His directorial debut was High School back in 1965, and was later known for the 1984 youth-oriented film Bagets. His award-winning films include Magnifico with Jiro Manio, Naglalayag with Nora Aunor, and A Love Story with Aga Muhlach, Angelica Panganiban, and Maricel Soriano.

 

 

In 2004, his movie Magnifico won the Crystal Bear award in the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival - Children's Category. He also received the special Jury Award at the Brussels International Independent Film Festival for the movie Naglalayag.

Direk Maryo was not just a great movie director, he also conquered TV by directing several seryes like Mga Anghel na Walang Langit and Calla Lily

Direk Maryo was also part of the executive committee of the Metro Manila Film Festival. His last movie in 2016 was with Star Cinema, topbilled by Angelican Panganiban, Dingdong Dantes, and Paulo Avelino titled The Unmarried Wife.

His contributions to the entertainment industry will continue to live on in the hearts of many, and his brilliance is immortalized in the movies he created.
