EXCLUSIVE: Here's Why Up-And-Coming Artist Angelina Cruz Should Be On Your Radar
Angelina Cruz's talent in singing was showcased in her 6-track EP released under Universal Records last year, as well as her cover of "Hanggang Kailan (Umuwi Ka Na Baby)" that generated nearly seven million streams on Spotify.
At 15 years old, the daughter of actress and singer Sunshine Cruz discovered her love for playing the ukulele, covering her favorite songs, and posting them on Instagram. “People started noticing my covers and then Universal Records contacted my mom,” she tells Metro.Style. “I started my singing career with them. I wanted to try something new for once so I can grow, too.”

“I like singing for how expressive it is. It’s a way of expressing your emotions not only through talking but also singing,” says Angelina, adding that pursuing music was one of the best decisions she has made thus far in life. “I’m proud of the person I am today. I’m happy that I have achieved having my songs out there on Spotify. I’m glad that I have accomplished what I have done because years ago, I actually never would have seen myself where I am right now.”
She had hesitations before stepping into the public eye, but whatever her fears may have been were eventually overshadowed by her passion for music. “Obviously, joining this industry is a full commitment... I also had my studies to prioritize so I thought of setting my priorities straight. I started with studies then my career. I just manage,” Angelina says.

It’s all about time management and priority-setting for the incoming grade 12 student. “I don’t really accept gigs or offers if they’re on school days,” she reveals. “I just ask them to adjust for me because it’s going to be really hard if I'll be absent because in one day, I’ll miss a lot. If I get sick for a few days, I’ll miss a lot so I have to ask them to adjust or I just decline.”
On her free time, she loves watching old movies, eating cheese rolls, and making art. “Not much people know this but I like sketching and drawing. I tried watercolor for a bit but now I’m drawn to sketching, usually portraits of people,” the young artist shares.

Angelina, like her mom Sunshine, loves dressing up. “Confidence is key so if I’m confident in what I’m wearing then I guess I’ll slay it,” she says, adding some tips and tricks she always keeps in mind when putting together her outfits. Angelina adds, “I make sure my style is balanced out. If I’m wearing loose pants, then I’d wear a tight shirt. If I’m wearing a loose top, I’d wear tight bottoms.”
Her fashion must-haves, she reveals, include a pair of brown sandals, white sneakers, and a plain white shirt. “That really comes in handy if you want to match it with different accessories,” Angelina notes.

When asked about what else she wants to focus on soon, she quickly pointed out her goal of mastering her Tagalog. “That’s what I want to do because in the future, I might start acting. I’m open to it. I really want to branch out in the industry,” she reveals, then teases a new single coming out for her fans soon.
