Getting to Know the Newly-Launched P-Pop Group 1621BC

The six-member boy band carves a niche in the growing P-pop industry

Launched last November 2023, StarPop’s newest P-pop ensemble 1621BC is a boy band worth looking forward to. Composed of Pan, Win, Migz, DJ, JM, and JC, the six-member group aims to make waves in the local music scene.

1621, an angel number that means success, fulfillment, and new beginnings; and BC, which can either stand for “beyond complete,” “boundless courage,” “believe completely,” “boldly captivating,” “beautifully charming,” or “blessed circle,” make up the group’s name. It also just so happened that DJ, the youngest member, is 16 years old, while JM, the group’s “kuya,” is 21.

Marking their entrance with their debut single “Laruan,” the boy band still can’t believe they were able to penetrate such a competitive industry.

“Life-changing po talaga ’yung pinasok naming industry kasi marami po kaming na-experience like mag-promote sa national TV, and nagkaroon din po kami ng opportunity na magkaroon po ng sarili naming songs, na hindi rin po namin inaasahan na matutupad po namin,” Win shared with Metro.Style.

Inspired by their individual dreams and the prolific groups that preceded them like One Direction, BTS, Boyz II Men, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, The Vamps, Queen, and Eraserheads, 1621BC orbits various genres such as pop, ballad, R&B, and country.

Gusto naming ipakita sa mga tao or sa viewers or sa listeners na versatile kami sa kahit ano’ng music style. Pero mostly, ’yung pino-portray namin is ’yung harmony talaga,” said Pan.

Meanwhile, their self-titled extended play, which was dropped in early February, revolves around young love and the tales encompassing it. The album—produced by StarPop’s Rox Santos—contains six tracks, all of which are meant to represent the youth’s outcry over falling in love and going through painful heartbreaks.

As to how they perceive the P-pop landscape, however, JM explained why it’s important for them to be part of this booming market. “’Yung P-pop po kasi, para sa’min pong lahat, parang new opportunity siya for OPM na maibigay ’yung another flavor po sa music. Malaking bagay po talaga na nandito kami sa industry na ’to.”

Now that 1621BC is gearing up more than ever to showcase their vocal dynamics and musical talent, the P-pop circle also wishes to collaborate with local artists like TJ Monterde, SB19, BGYO, Billy Crawford, Sam Concepcion, Michael Pangilinan, Maki, Anji Salvacion, Jeremy Glinoga, Juan Karlos Labajo, Arthur Nery, Adie, and the one and only Sarah Geronimo.

As one of StarPop’s fresh faces and newcomers in the P-pop circuit, the boys of 1621BC also took advice from their seniors seriously. “Everyone has their own time po. ’Yun po ’yung tumatak sa’kin,” Migz declared.

JC, on the other hand, believes that there are no shortcuts to being successful. “Wala pong instant sa pag-abot ng pangarap. Lahat po tayo, dadaan sa struggles, ups and downs. And kapag po kasi nakuha natin nang instant ’yung isang bagay, mawawala rin po siya agad nang mabilisan,” his statement went.

As for 1621BC’s upcoming projects, DJ looks forward to cooking up their next albums and tracks and goes by the principle “never back down; never give up.” He invites their supporters to stay tuned, too, as they will treat them to random surprises. “Abangan n’yo po ’yung mga campus tour namin and mga new dance challenge. Sana gawin n’yo rin.”
