Highly acclaimed trot singer and Korean superstar Young Tak visited Manila to do a series of shows and promo appearances. One of the shows he guested and performed in was ABS-CBN's It's Showtime. Also part of this 'Jjiniya' hitmaker's itinerary is a press conference, wherein he shared his thoughts on the Philippines and the Filipino artists and his first studio album MMM that features 12 tracks.
Highly acclaimed trot singer and Korean superstar Young Tak visited Manila to do a series of shows and promo appearances. One of the shows he guested and performed in was ABS-CBN's It's Showtime. Also part of this 'Jjiniya' hitmaker's itinerary is a press conference, wherein he shared his thoughts on the Philippines and the Filipino artists and his first studio album MMM that features 12 tracks.
Though Young Tak debuted in 2007 as a ballad singer, he's still celebrating a lot of firsts in his career, one being this first visit to Manila. Throughout his career, it was also just last year when he released his first studio album, making MMM (which stands for 'Manners Maketh Man' ) all the more special. This year, he's also taking on a regular supporting role in the Korean series Strong Woman Gang Nam Soon which, coming from his previous K-drama cameo stints, thrusts him further into the world of acting.
Though Young Tak debuted in 2007 as a ballad singer, he's still celebrating a lot of firsts in his career, one being this first visit to Manila. On what he knew about the Philippines prior to his visit
'Siguro naman po alam nating lahat na pagdating sa Korea, ang Pilipinas po ang isa mga pinakaunang iniisip pagdating sa vacations, magagandang tanawin, magagandang mga dagat. Kaya rin po, personally, ay isa rin po ako sa mga tao na nag-isip na sana makarating din sa Pilipinas para ma-enjoy ko po 'yung mga ganitong magagandang tanawin. Pero sayang po dahil 'yung naging schedule ko po sa oras na ito ay masyado pong maikli para makita ko po 'yung mga bagay na 'yun.'

On Filipino music and the possibility of collaborating with Filipino artists
'Sa buong mundo rin, lalo na rin sa Korea, kilalang-kilala po ang Pilipinas at ang mga Pilipino bilang mga taong taglay ang napakadakilang musicality at ang talento pagdating po sa musika. Kahit medyo mahirap ho ngayon na magbanggit po ako ng mga specific na mga artists, sobra rin po akong umaasa at excited na in the future makapag-collaborate rin po ako sa mga dakilang musikero dito sa Pilipinas.'

On the inspiration behind his first studio album MMM and the element that ties all the songs in it
'Unang-una, ito po 'yung first studio album na na-release ko po sa buong career ko. Kahit marami po akong nakasama sa single albums at OSTs ng iba-ibang K-dramas, ninais ko po na sa pamamagitan po ng sobrang meaningful na first album ko, ginusto ko pong ibahagi sa mga nakikinig kung ano ba ang aking naranasan sa aking buhay, ano ba ang mga naramdaman ko sa pamamagitan po ng mga karanasan na iyon. Kaya kung titignan niyo po ang unang kanta... nagta-tackle po ng rock genre theme, pero ito po ay ginamit kong paraan para mabuksan po 'yung pintuan para mas masimulan ko po 'yung mas personal na pagkukuwento po tungkol sa mga sarili kong karanasan at sa sarili kong mga nararamdaman. At ito po ay maigi kong naibahagi hanggang sa pinakahuling kanta ng album na ito.'

Young Tak started his career as a trot singer by releasing the album Nuna You're Perfect in 2016. In 2020, he became well-known by placing second in the TV Chosun and South Korean reality TV audition show for a singer who performed trot music out of 17,000 participants. The trot is a popular genre of Korean music characterized by its repetitive rhythms and vocal inflections.
