EXCLUSIVE: Who Is Martin Spies? Get To Know The Man That Rachelle Ann Go Just Married!
The 31-year-old theater actress is now a proud and happy wife!
And the man who swept her off her feet is none other than Martin Spies, a University of Florida graduate and now general manager of Equinox, whom she fell head over heels for during their whirlwind romance. The two started seeing each other in early 2017, got engaged in September, and are now married!
The lovely couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held in the tropical island of Boracay on April 18, with lots of friends and family witnessing them begin this new chapter in their lives.
To get to know the man who Rachelle believes is an answered prayer and their love story as a couple, read on!
The meet cute
Martin first set eyes on her at a church in New York when he was on his way to see a mutual friend of theirs. Rachelle just happened to be there, too. Martin recounts, "I thought she was really beautiful, and I kept thinking about her after that and wondering, 'Who is this girl?'"
The first date
Just like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's love story, this was a love that blossomed after an incredibly successful set up! A friend set these lovebirds up during a group date. He asked her out for coffee soon afterwards, and the next thing they knew, they had fallen in love.
He had no idea who Rachelle was, as a star
"I think I Wikepedia'd her and Instagrammed, just to see who she is," Martin admits. He did this after being told that there was "a girl on Broadway" who was attending service in and visiting his church. He let time do most of the work though, as he didn't research on who Rachelle was and got to know her himself during their many dates.
It took less than six months after they first met for Martin to meet Rachelle's parents.
The moment of realization
All it took was three weeks. "I remember picturing myself giving my speech at the wedding. I was thinking of what I would say to her on our wedding day," he recalls.
"I just had this feeling from the start that I was going to go for her, no matter what," he continues.
Martin and Rachelle are both deeply spiritual people. It's their faith that even brought them together, to begin with. But at the end of the day, Martin believes that it was God's plan to bring them together. They met at exactly the right time, under the right circumstances, shared similar beliefs, are both God-fearing, and had complementing goals in life.
A change of setting
Martin, a South African-born lad based in New York, is willing to move around the world if ever life requires him and Rachelle to do so. Given Rachelle's life that revolves around moving to places where her performances are set, this certainly means a lot to her.
He told Rachelle he was "going running." Shangri-La Boracay Resort & Spa's staffers were in on the plan, and helped Martin keep the arrangements secret! And for the record, he wasn't worried at all that she was going to say no—but he was nervous, nonetheless!
