Why Catriona Gray Could Be The Next Miss Universe

It’s official: Catriona Gray has joined Binibining Pilipinas!

'Tis the season of pageantry once again. Aspiring beauty queens have come forward and filed their application to the upcoming Binibining Pilipinas 2018, and the hopefuls’ list isn’t short of already-popular names. Case in point: Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray.

The former titleholder took to Instagram to talk about her decision and make her participation in Binibining Pilipinas official. Celebrities, like Tim Yap and Ruffa Gutierrez, cheered for the Filipino-Australian beauty, showing their love through the comments section of the said post.

It seems like Binibining Pilipinas will get more exciting this year, and so will Miss Universe should Catriona succeed in bagging the Bb. Pilipinas - Universe 2018 title.

With her Instagram post and announcement, Catriona became a trending topic on social media. Her post even garnered almost 30,000 double taps and more than 3,000 comments!

Clearly, many people got excited about the possibility of having another Filipina take home the coveted Miss Universe crown and title.

So, here are the top three reasons why Catriona just might have a big chance at success:

1. She isn’t new to the pageant world. She has been named as Miss World Philippines 2016, and even made it all the way to the Top 5 of Miss World, finishing 3rd runner-up, that year. Nonetheless, it’s a new journey that will keep the public’s eye on her.

2. Her modeling background gave her the much-needed confidence and poise to stand out in the international pageant. She was just a simple girl, who loves music and the arts, back in Australia. After high school, she moved to the Philippines to try her shot at modelling. She skyrocketed to top model status at 18. Other opportunities followed suit—she tried her hand at hosting and eventually, she found her way to the world of beauty pageants.

3. She was trained by Aces & Queens. This camp, headed by renowned beauty queen-maker Jonas Gaffud, also trained Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss World 2013 Megan Young, and Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa.
