#MetroMostStylish2019: Bea Valdes

In a word, Bea Valdes is an artist. That’s putting it very modestly, but what other accolade is there to encompass the sheer scope of her body of work? From designing accessories in her Bea Valdes brand (which, over the years have been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, CNN, British Vogue, and more) to her interior design collaborations, such as the Roche Bobois X Bea Valdes collection, then to her art installations, and finally to her ready-to-wear line for Ideé Clothing, Bea’s creative prowess transcends art—be it on a page, canvas, textile, or wood.

She has a reputation for being a methodical artist, and that clearly shows in how meticulously crafted her designs are. But when it comes to fashion, her approach is simpler. “[My style] is a lot more casual now," she says, pointing out that the change in her style is partly due to the changes in her life as a woman who juggles motherhood, work, and other passions. "I’ve always gravitated towards more smart dressing, [and] maybe less frills. I also like things that can go from day to night; with cuts that always flatter. I’m not really very entrenched in trends, but things I think suit my lifestyle.”

“If you start to find what makes you look good and feel good, then that’s sort of the path you have to take.”
