#MetroMostStylish2019: Heart Evangelista
The heart gets what the heart wants, and Heart Evangelista-Escudero is here to have it all. She returns to Metro Most Stylish as number one, a fitting end to a banner year that was 2018, and a wonderful kick off to the new year.
The year 2018 has been particularly fulfilling for Heart. Aside from being chosen by Kevin Kwan of Crazy Rich Asians fame to be his muse in a special feature for Harper’s Bazaar (cementing her status as a bona de style icon), she’s also transformed herself into a digital savvy darling and global fashion week fixture, from Milan to Paris, New York and beyond. But looking back on the past year, the proudest moment for her, she says, would be “ finally and fully embracing my independence.”
Heart has often shared her story of growing up being pampered and doted upon like a doll. Thus, living free by her own decisions was a dream that she could only long for—well, that’s what she thought at first.
Today, she’s living life the way she’s always imagined—free and fearless—and this has led her to numerous creative breakthroughs. Like opening up Pandora’s box, she can’t contain the energy that’s finally been unlocked within her. She’s voracious, hungry to try new things and excited to pursue each of her passions so deeply. There’s no "what ifs," "buts" or ‘"I can’ts" with Heart; she simply dives in head first into her whims.
Some of the recent projects that she’s thrown herself into fully is developing a fashion line in collaboration with Kamiseta, working with her favorite makeup artist Albert Kurniawan for Teviant, designing bags for luxury bag retailer Sequioa, and another partnership in the pipeline with yet another Parisian brand. Her career as a visual artist—a well-received one at that among the art elite—is also in full gear.
“As you can see, I’m doing a lot of stuff outside of showbiz,” chuckles the young beauty, surprising even herself by the sheer number of projects she’s taken on. “But I still want to go back to my roots (acting). I need to do that, too, because it still sparks something in me.”
“In all honesty, I feel like I’m on fire!” she reveals. “I’m so inspired; I’m oozing with ideas and positivity. I guess it’s because I now have a different outlook in life.” After experiencing personal struggles and breakthroughs, she’s come to a point in her life where she now feels complete and in control.
“People who say that [fashion is shallow and superficial] don’t quite understand the power of style. Every day, you wake up and put on clothes. Even if you randomly throw an out t together, it’s a choice you make. You wore this because you chose this, and isn’t that still a means of self-expression?”
