#MetroMostStylish2019: Salome Uy

"Fashion is about having fun," says businesswoman and mother Salome Uy. A quick scroll through her Instagram feed will instantly tell you how much she believes in that statement. Her playful and edgy yet elegant take on fashion is particularly remarkable. Salome has always been fearless about styling, and even remembers that phase when her younger self was fascinated with wearing red boots.

These days, this socialite's wardrobe is filled with statement-making cover-ups, fun and flirty dresses, coordinated ensembles, and flared pants with all sorts of details. Salome is fond of wearing pieces fresh off the runway, too! “I go to local designers and usually choose pieces from their shows,” says this self-confessed "lover of Pinoy designers." Some of the local designers whose creations she had worn include Rajo Laurel, Joey Samson, Martin Bautista, Anthony Ramirez, and Andrea Tetangco. “They each have their own look,” she points out. “I never go to one designer and ask them to do another designer’s creations. I go to Joey Samson for suits, Martin Bautista for a tulle creation, and so on.”

Salome’s understanding of how fashion isn’t just about clothes, but also about recognizing the artistry in it, is what makes her truly stylish.

“Confidence is what makes a woman stylish. [It’s] when you don’t care what other people say about you, you know what you want, you know what makes you look good, and you’re comfortable with your own body.”
