2018 Is The Year Of The Royals: 6 Events That Make This Year The Best One For British Monarchy
2018 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for members of the British monarchy! Many of them have made headlines over the past few months for all the right reasons. From engagements and weddings, to pregnancies and first-time happenings, here are six events that prove 2018 is going to be a great year for the world's most famous royals.
1. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting married soon.
Out of all the delightful events Britain's royals are looking forward to this year, Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding is probably the one the rest of the world is most excited about. After announcing their engagement in November, the couple is set to wed on May 19 in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
2. Meghan Markle helps breathe new life into the British monarchy.
Everyone has had nothing but praise for Prince Harry and Meghan's "royally unconventional" relationship. As a prince, Prince Harry would have been expected to marry a woman with royal lineage. Instead, he's chosen to spend his life with Meghan, an LA-born and biracial American actress. Rather than shock the world with their relationship, the duo has invited a sense of modernity and relatability into the British monarchy—a centuries-old institution that many Britons felt was losing touch with the times, until Meghan.
3. Kate Middleton is expecting her third child!
Along with Prince William, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is expecting another addition to her already adorable family. She's already mother to royal tots Prince George and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, and the world can't wait to know if their third bundle of joy will be a boy or a girl. She's due to give birth in April.
4. Zara Tindall announces her pregnancy.
Zara Tindall, a British equestrian and granddaughter of the Queen, has announced her pregnancy early this month. Fans and followers of the British royal family know that this isn't just any other pregnancy, because it is known that Zara suffered a devastating miscarriage in 2016 over the holidays. The 36-year-old, who is married to former English rugby player Mike Tindall, is being extra careful, to make sure this pregnancy goes smoothly and ends with their three-year-old daughter, Mia, getting a baby sister or brother.
5. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge goes to her first day of nursery.
Even for royalty, sending off children to go on their first day of school is an emotional milestone. For Kate Middleton, she saw her two-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, go off on her first day of nursery just this month. The little royal is attending the Willcocks Nursery School, an exclusive and traditional nursery school located close to Kensington Palace.
6. Princess Eugenie gets engaged to Jack Brooksbank.
Princess Eugenie, granddaughter of the Queen and daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, has just gotten engaged to longtime boyfriend, Jack. The low-key Princess and the love of her life were together for seven years before getting engaged during their Nicaraguan holiday just yesterday. Like Meghan, Jack is also considered a commoner but is reportedly well-loved by Princess Eugenie's family. Their wedding is scheduled to take place in the latter half of the year and will also be held in St. George's Chapel.
It's just the start of the year and things are already looking so happy and event-filled for the British royal family. We can't wait to see what the next 11 months will bring!
