WATCH: President-Elect Joe Biden's Daughter Ashley Talks About Their Family's Reactions To His Win

As of this writing, millions upon millions of people around the world are counting down the hours until President Donald Trump departs from the White House and new leadership steps in. 

On January 21, President- and Vice President-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will step in as the new heads of power of the United States, ushering with them a new era that promises unity over division, fairness over fascist-like ideals, and most importantly, hope over despair.

It was a long and winding road for Joe Biden to get to where he is and will soon be, and no one knows this better than his family. 

His daughter Ashley speaks about how they as a family reacted to and felt about her father winning the election and officially becoming the 46th president of the country.

"I was taking a nap, when all of a sudden I heard [screaming]," smiles Ashley.

She recalls the moment when her family was at the edge of their seats in November when the presidential race was at its tensest. Pennsylvania, considered a battleground state during elections, was up for the taking and after days and days of wondering if it would turn blue when all the ballots had been counted, it finally did.

"I jumped up and ran down, and that's when we had won Pennsylvania. It was so exciting. We were all together," she continues.

Ashley Biden is Joe Biden's only biological child with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden. She has two older half-brothers, Hunter and Beau (Beau passed away in 2015), from her father's first marriage with Neilia Hunter Biden. 

"I sat next to dad, held his hand... I'm just so proud. I truly am proud of my father," Ashley says. 

Ashley was joined by four of her nieces, a.k.a. the new presidential granddaughters, in an exclusive interview with TODAY where she details her family's wonderful experiences in witnessing history unfold, and being at the very center of a momentous time in American history.
