Binibining Pilipinas' 57th Grand Coronation Night is upon us!
The journey of the Binibining Pilipinas 2021 candidates to the crown has begun!
Thirty-four Filipinas are participating in the Binibining Pilipinas 2021 competition this year, each of them vying to win one of the four crowns that will earn them the privilege of representing the Philippines as Binibining Pilipinas International, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International, Binibining Pilipinas Globe, and Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental. The winners will be determined on the upcoming 57th Grand Coronation Night.
The girls make pageant history by becoming the batch of titleholder hopefuls to compete in the longest ever Binibining Pilipinas season; because of unexpected delays brought on by the start of the pandemic in 2020, the Binibining Pilipinas 2021 competition has gone on for over a year, with some of the candidates even celebrating two birthdays before pre-pageant activities resumed.
At the beginning of the season, 40 candidates were on the roster of candidates, but six dropped out from the road to the crown for various reasons (age restrictions disqualified some of them—including Binibining Pilipinas returnee Vickie Rushton—while others simple had more pressing matters to attend to that took precedence over the pageant).
Finally, as the world inches its way back to normalcy, 34 of the remaining candidates can get back on track with their dreams of joining the illustrious circle of Filipina beauty queens.
The Binibining Pilipinas 2021 competition held its primer on July 7, Wednesday. Featuring with a virtual pep talk from Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and hosted by Boy Abunda, the private event had the girls go through their first taste of pageant Q&A; the girls were called to the stage individually then needed to answer a question that quizzed them about current events. After each girl provided an answer, Boy Abunda provided a brief critique and coached the girls for how to improve their Q&A skills come coronation night on July 11, Sunday, to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Other preliminary events that the 34 candidates have participated in include the swimsuit and national costume presentations. The winner of the Best in National Costume award will be announced on the coronation night.
For the first time in Binibining Pilipinas history, many of its events, including coronation night, will do without a large live audience and will be on a strict by-invitation only basis due to health protocols. To maintain engagement with its loyal fans, Binibining Pilipinas has fully utilized online platforms to bring them content, including an app (called BbPilipinas) that lets them vote for their favorite candidates.
The candidates are now on their last leg of training for coronation night.
Other than the competition itself, pageant fans are excited to see another Binibining Pilipinas milestone unfold. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and 2016 First Runner-Up Nicole Cordoves will be hosting the show, marking the first time it will feature a female tandem to bring to life the "grandest night in HERstory."
The pair's return to the stage is highly anticipated as they previously teamed up in August last year to coach 2020's batch of Binibining Pilipinas candidates about how to tell their stories compellingly.
Finally, with just two days left until coronation night, Binibining Pilipinas 2021 candidates will finally know which of them will end the night with crowns atop their heads.
