Celebrating Milestones: A Look Back On Grace Baja's 40th Birthday Celebration In Hong Kong
Grace Barbers-Baja celebrated her 40th birthday with an intimate dinner with family and friends in Hong Kong.
Grace, also known as @thespoiledmummy, planned her 40th birthday party as meticulously as she puts her blog together. She decided to celebrate her milestone in Hong Kong. With the help of her banker husband Lauro, they scoured all the best eating establishments in the former crown colony and settled for Popinjays in The Murray Hotel. Located along the legendary Cotton Tree Drive in the heart of Hong Kong, The Murray is the city’s newest, luxury iconic landmark hotel. Popinjays is the hotel’s glamorous rooftop restaurant and bar with panoramic views of the city.
The party started with the husband and wife welcoming their 40 guests to the rooftop where guests were served champagne surrounded by the amazing views of Hong Kong island. They took over the dining area of Popinjays, which was awash in pink lights, the favorite color of Grace.
Dinner was served immediately after, and the menu included the following:
Appetizers: Petrossian caviar and organic egg with farmer’s cream or pan-seared Hokkaido scallops with a light cauliflower puree and a fragrant coconut curry emulsion
Main course: A Korean A5 Wagyu beef striploin with “forgotten vegetables” and perigourdine sauce or a roasted wild sea bass and Perigord black truffle with celeriac mousseline, green apple, and a delicate champagne sauce
Dessert: A chocolate crémeux with hazelnut crunch, balanced with the tartness of fresh strawberries and redfruit sorbet or figs and hazelnut praline mille-feuille with bitter orange agar and raspberry sorbet.
While dinner was being served, the two ladies of Vossa Duo, a musical discovery of the couple, played pop and current songs to further set the tone of this celebration. Lauro carefully chose the wines to go with the exceptional menu. Drinks included Ruinart Blanc De Blanc champagne, Pinot Grigio, Jesera, Venica & Venica, Chateau Haut-Bailly 2000, and Chateau Baret.
The party continued with Lauro and his eldest son, Andres, giving moving speeches, praising and lauding Grace. Male friends even serenaded Grace with songs that were very sentimental to the couple. Guests then hit the dance floor as they partied the night away with Vossa Duo singing. "The Spoiled Mummy" was indeed blessed that night.
