"Suited" For Royal Life: Meghan Markle Nails Her First Royal Speech!
Pun intended.
The 36-year-old Suits actress continued to impress members of the media and fans of the royal family, thanks to her memorable speecha—and the outfit she wore—at the Endeavour Fund Awards held in Goldsmiths' Hall, London on a rainy Thursday evening.
Founded by Princes Harry, Prince William, and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, the Endeavour Fund Awards recognize the achievements of wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women who have gone on admirable sporting and adventure challenges as part of their recovery and rehabilitation. Meghan's attendance was part of her training for life as a royal with responsibilities.
In her very first royal black tie event, Meghan arrived at the venue with her fiancé, wearing an unexpected ensemble: a classy tailored suit by Alexander McQueen that let her femininity shine through while allowing her to command power and respect from the room.
As she paired the black ensemble with sky-high black pumps and a simple clutch, some even say she wore her suit better than Prince Harry did his! On the other hand, her hair was kept down, and her makeup was done in her signature subdued style of a natural finish.
When it was her turn to take the stage, Meghan showed her audience how well royal life suited her. She spoke with confidence as she presented the Celebrating Excellence Award to Daniel Claricoates, who was considered to have excelled the most in recovering from post-war trauma.
“Despite his teammates stating that Daniel’s battle with post-traumatic stress was probably the toughest they have ever seen, Daniel joined '65 Degrees North' in climbing to the summits of the highest mountains in both Africa and Antartica. Daniel now works with children, assisting them to foster their own spirit of adventure through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Team," Meghan said.
More impressively, the Hollywood star put her skills to good use when her co-presentor fumbled before announcing Daniel's name. She kept her cool, gave the audience a charming smile, and handled the otherwise embarassing giggling with grace. Prince Harry sat in the audience and watched her deliver her speech with pride. Meghan totally nailed this event, without a doubt!
Royal experts were quick to point out that Meghan's speech was highly unusual, considering that she is still a royal-to-be and shouldn't technically be given royal responsibilities just yet. Considering the couple's reputation of deviating from strict royal protocol, their global audience has learned to expect nothing less from the world's "first modern royals."
In the coming days, it seems that Meghan is set to give yet another rule-breaking speech. On her wedding on May 19, it's rumored that Meghan will be giving her own speech, possibly making her the first-ever royal bride to do so.
