EXCLUSIVE: Jasmine Maierhofer and Angelo Patrimonio's "Metro in Love" Interview
In this exclusive, this soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. shared their love story and talked about their wedding preparations. Plus, Jasmine revealed the designers who are creating her bridal outfits
He’s quiet and shy, she’s perky and chatty. He often looks serious, she’s all smiles. It may seem like they are quite a pair of opposites but The Killer Bride guest actor Angelo Patrimonio and supermodel Jasmine Maierhofer found the right formula and chemistry to make their relationship work.
First meeting, first love
The story of how Angelo and Jasmine met is a heart-fluttering combination of happenstance and planned.
It all began when Angelo’s mom Cindy Conwi-Patrimonio suffered a tennis injury at the same period Jasmine’s cager brother Rico Maierhofer (who plays in basketball legend Alvin Patrimonio’s Purefoods team) was also brought to the same clinic for rehabilitation from a basketball injury.
Cindy, in a fit of inspiration, set up Rico with her half-sister Jeck. Rico and Jeck hit it off romantically, and are now happily married with kids. The family love didn’t stop with the first pair. Jeck, in turn, thought of setting up Rico’s sister Jasmine with Angelo who eventually had their first meeting during a family dinner.
“Ang first impression ko, akala ko hindi marunong mag-Tagalog. Akala ko foreigner,” Angelo smiles.
Jasmine humorously interjects, “Kasi wala sa itsura ko eh. I’m half-Austrian, half-Filipino but I grew up here. Marunong akong mag-Tagalog at Bisaya. O, saan ka pa?”
Jasmine, on the other hand, instantly felt the magic when she first met Angelo. “He is the man of my dreams. Nagkulang lang at naligaw lang sa height nang kaunti. Iyon lang talaga pero complete package si Angelo,” she laughs. “Super bait kasi n’ya and super loyal! Mararamdaman mo kapag na-meet mo s’ya in person. [First meeting pa lang] nag-slow mo eh. Bakit ganu’n? Akala ko sa teleserye lang iyong slow mo.”
Just like Rico and Jeck, Angelo and Jasmine were drawn to each other and found themselves spending time together.
“Grabe s’ya sa effort kasi I live in Vito Cruz sa may Taft in Manila while he lives in Cainta, Rizal. Medyo two hours away pero sinusundo n’ya ako almost every day sa school ko [Adamson University] kapag wala s’yang work. Ihahatid pa n’ya ako sa bahay namin tapos uuwi pa s’ya ng Cainta, super layo! Ewan ko nga kung ano nga bang pinakain ko dito. Nabola ko nang bongga,” the model laughs.
Angelo formally asked Jasmine to be his girlfriend on September 3, 2011. They were out together on a party that night when he asked her to catch some air outside of the venue. She thought it was a good idea since the bar was also packed and crowded. When they found themselves alone together, Angelo pulled out a necklace and asked her “Will you be my girlfriend?” To which she, of course, said yes to. It all happened before midnight struck.
“Hinabol ko talaga para September 3. Gusto ko kasi talaga ng three. Kasi si God, tapos ako and si Jas—tatlo kami in the relationship to make it work,” he explains. “Ipinagdarasal ko talaga dati na iyong first girlfriend ko, iyon na ang last kasi ayoko ng sakit ng ulo tapos palipat-lipat,” Angelo adds, optimistic of his first and great love with Jasmine.
Asked what they love about each other, both became pensive.
“Loyal s’ya at tanggap n’ya lahat ng flaws ko and gusto ko iyong pagiging positive ng outlook n’ya sa buhay—kasi ako may time na sunod-sunod may pagka-negative thinking ako tapos s’ya positive pa rin. So nakakatuwa and nai-influence ako,” he says.
Jasmine’s delicate features softened up even more when she talked about what she loves most about her fiancé. “Alam mo, super love ko the way he treats his mom. Grabe! Sabi ko, wow, kasi iba iyong respect n’ya sa mga girls. Kaya sabi ko he’s really The One. He’s a man of God and alam mo s’ya ang nag-baptize sa akin with the help of Pastor Joseph [Carodan] dito sa bahay nila to renew my faith. Dati kilala ko na si God pero dahil sa kanya, mas nagka-relationship ako with God. Kaya iba iyong pagka-grateful ko sa kanya,” she says.
The couple, both part of Victory Christian Fellowship, is set to celebrate their 10th anniversary on September 3, 2021—the date of their wedding!
The past ten years, just like any other relationship, have been happy for the two but they acknowledged that there have been ups and downs.
“Importante iyong pag-accept ng flaws ng bawat isa kasi hindi naman tayo perpekto eh... So you need to find harmony in spite of differences. Kahit may time na naiinis kayo sa isa’t-isa, give and take,” Angelo notes.
“Huwag mong sasabayan kapag halimbawang galit s’ya dahil magka-clash talaga,” Jasmine adds.
They both seek advice from their pastor whenever they are dealing with a problem. Angelo stresses the importance of working things out and knowing when you’re wrong. “With the help of God too. Kailangan mo rin malaman kung tama nga ba talaga iyong ginawa mo. Check the Bible kasi baka mali ka naman talaga,” Jasmine remarks.
If Angelo officially asking Jasmine to be his girlfriend is of any indication, he truly is a romantic. In fact, when asked about the sweetest thing he has ever done for her, Jasmine declared his wedding proposal takes the cake.
On October 19, 2019, it was just another day at work for Jasmine as she walked the runway for a bridal show. Little did she know that her walk down the “aisle” that day would be the start of the countdown to her walk to the altar. Angelo organized a romantic wedding proposal with the help of the people closest to them.
“Tinulungan ako actually ng mom ko na kontakin iyong manager ni Jas one week before the fashion show. Tinanong n’ya sa manager n’ya na si Mau [de Leon of Mercator Talent Management] if may upcoming bridal show si Jas... So parang kinausap iyong director sa show na i-set up na last si Jas na lalabas para in the end, p’wedeng mag-propose,” he narrates.
Jasmine remained clueless that day. She remembered being told by the director to stay in the middle of the runway and to count from one to 15 before she would make an exit. She was still busy counting in her head when she heard Angelo’s voice from behind. Upon seeing him, she was shocked and felt that “Oh my gosh! This is the moment.”
While Jasmine was onstage, the lights dimmed and a romantic song by Ed Sheeran played. Angelo walked towards her to say the things he needed to say.
“Surprise, Jasmine! Before you go, I would like to say a few words. More than eight years ago, I prayed to God that I want my first girlfriend to be my last. And then I met you—so beautiful, funny, sweet and most importantly, loyal. I want to take our relationship to the next level and therefore I’d like to ask (kneels): Jasmine Maierhofer, my dream girl, will you marry me?” he says, with loud and supportive cheers from the crowd. The bridal gown model-turned bride-to-be cheerfully said yes.
“Iyong proposal n’ya talaga—grabe! Knowing Angelo, medyo mahiyain kasi s’ya eh para ma-put up at magawa n’ya iyon sa live show and with live audience, sabi ko, wow! Parang na-conquer n’ya iyong fear na iyon para lang for me. Amazing!” Jasmine recalls, feeling giddy at the memory.
The two also throw funny jabs at each other because of the proposal. “Thankful ako doon sa bridal show na pumayag sila na gawin ko iyon kasi kung ako pa mag-put up nu’n baka ang laki pa ng gastos ko,” Angelo jokes. “Ayun! Ang mahalaga, nakalibre s’ya!” she teases.
For Angelo, everyday that she’s with Jasmine feels like the sweetest moment. “Every day na loyalty n’ya is enough for me. Lahat ng ginagawa n’ya, sweet. Gusto n’ya akong makasama lagi at ’yun na ’yung para sa akin sweetest na ginagawa pa rin n’ya up to now. Gusto n’ya akong kasama lagi na parang best friend,” he says.
Weddings and romance
The engaged couple was originally slated to have a summer wedding in March 3 of this year but lockdowns and safety protocols forced them to move it this September. “Perfect timing din kasi 10th anniversary namin so sakto! Sabi ko okay na nga lang iyan na umuulan basta matuloy na,” the blooming bride-to-be shares.
As they mark their 10th year together on September 3, Angelo and Jasmine are set to exchange vows at Club Ananda in Nasugbu, Batangas. Jasmine’s beloved dog Isla is the ringbearer. The couple thoughtfully enlisted the services of Juan Carlo as the caterer, Teddy Manuel as the wedding florist, and Rey Santos Jr. as the fashion stylist. Jasmine credits her wedding planner Kim Torres, too, for being patient and for handling well the various changes and rescheduling that transpired for the occasion.
With Jasmine’s vast experience as a model and wonderful relationships formed within the fashion industry, it’s not a surprise that designers have expressed their intent to be a part of this milestone in her life. “Marami akong friends na willing to help talaga to put up my dream wedding. Luckily, meron akong four gowns na isusuot sa wedding,” she happily shares.
On her special day, Jasmine will wear a bridal robe by Ann Casas. Francis Libiran will dress up the bride and groom for the ceremony, while Renee Salud is taking care of the bridal outfit for the post-wedding pictorial. The reception gown is being created by Jot Losa. “O di ba? Parang fashion show or editorial iyong gagawin ko. May change outfit! I’m super happy. Marami talagang tumulong. Dati prayer lang s’ya and a dream of mine tapos sunod-sunod iyong pumapasok na blessings. Sabi ko, God, iba ka talaga! Like hands down. Kaya kahit anong date pa kami ikasal, I’m happy already,” she exclaims, delighted with the outpouring of love and support for her and Angelo.
Though it has been pretty challenging for the couple to plan a wedding amid pandemic, this doesn’t dampen their excitement for the future.
“Actually, it’s not about the wedding but the marriage I’m looking forward to. We all know that the wedding only takes a day while marriage takes a lifetime so dapat iyong desisyon na iyon 100% sure,” she states.
Angelo nods in agreement. “Ang importante lang sa akin iyong union between man and woman. Ako kasi, to be honest, civil lang happy na ako,” he confesses, but immediately says he was willing to wait because it’s Jas’ dream to have a beautiful wedding. “Ipu-push ko talaga ito! Isang beses lang ako ikakasal eh,” she laughs.
Asked what they would tell each other today, as they are about to become Mr. and Mrs., the coosome twosome didn’t shy away from sharing their messages.
“Thank you for loving me with all my flaws and thank you for being my future wife,” Angelo sweetly says. To which Jasmine meaningfully replied, “I love you even more. I love all your flaws. Kuntento ako sa iyo. I love you so much and thankful ako kay God na ikaw ang binigay n’yang gift na I will treasure forever.”
Jasmine and Angelo can’t wait to seal their relationship with a kiss and a promise of forever.
