#MetroSocietyBestDressedMen – Michael Concepcion Revolutionizes The Fashion World One Sneaker At A Time
“If there's anyone who knows street dressing best, it's Mike. The best part of how he ends up being best-dressed is that he doesn't even have to try!” These are the words of Kate Paras, fashion editor of Metro titles and editor-in-chief of Metro Weddings, about how Mike prefers to dress up: all comfort, no fuss.
And the millennial who brought Commonwealth to the Philippines, conceptualized Ronnie and Joe, and has several notable retail establishments and restaurants to his credit, reveals just as much. “I don’t feel pressured into dressing well. Absolutely not, I really give no Fs,” he says, laughing. “What people think—that’s the least of my concerns. I’ll be the guy in the T-shirt when everyone’s in a suit, happily.”
Mike reveals he is most comfortable when he’s in his baggy cargo trousers, a T-shirt or a Cuban polo, and when he’s wearing sneakers, which he considers are the “grails” of the shoe game. It’s his daily uniform, he says, since he’s not a morning person and tends to dress up in five minutes or less.
“Mike is a lesson in how being casual and comfortable can still be stylish and gentrified. And he epitomizes how being Best Dressed and fashionable can and should look effortless.” – Philip Cu-Unjieng, ABS-CBN Sales Consultant
Commonwealth, his retail establishment of small yet sought-after brands, is filled with items of pretty much his aesthetic—subdued, casual, and street wear. And admittedly, most of what’s in his closet are from his stores, considering that he gets to meet the people behind the brands he brings into the country. But he follows a rule that’s quite simple: buy it because you like it. “I’m not too brand-conscious, I don’t buy it for them for the sake of the name. I buy it because I like it, it’s really as simple as that.”
And if you’re curious about how many pairs of sneakers he has? He lets us in on how many, and it’s not as much as we initially guessed it to be: “I try not to let it build up, so I give to my little cousins after a while. But right now, maybe I have 40 to 50. Sneakers are definitely an addiction, and I own too many.”
