Angel Locsin is as close to a real-life superhero as one can get. Would you believe it’s already been more than 10 years since Angel took on the challenge of being one of the most iconic superheroes in the Philippines? She took flight as Darna in 2005 and hasn’t come down from her ascent to stardom ever since.

Joining showbiz in 2002 as part of the teen-oriented show Click, everyone saw Angel as the boyish but charming girl-next-door, which is not unlike the star’s real down-to-earth persona. Then came Darna, the show that allowed Angel to soar to the mainstream with record-setting TV ratings.

After a slew of fantasy TV shows like Majika and Asian Treasures, Angel moved to the Kapamilya network in 2007. She has since starred in hit TV shows like Only You, The Legal Wife, and Lobo. Angel’s performance in Lobo also earned her an International Emmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress nomination. After her stellar performance as Jacintha Magsaysay in the recently-concluded La Luna Sangre, Angel is back to make dreams a reality for some of the contestants of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 6 as a judge for the show.

But aside from her very iconic portrayal of strong female characters, what makes Angel a real-life superhero to many Filipinos is her involvement in charity works and her philanthropic efforts to support organizations like Gabriela and Philippine Red Cross. Her most recent charity work was when she shed light upon the situation in Marawi, helping the relief efforts without any qualms.
