Miel Pangilinan Comes Out as a Member of the LGBTQ Community
"It’s a really emotional and freeing time right now... posting this truly feels cathartic," Miel writes on Instagram
In celebration of Pride Month and her coming out as queer, Miel Pangilinan posted photos of herself on Instagram, bannering the symbolic rainbow flag that represents the LGBTQ community. With a courageous and humble heart, she expressed how thankful she is for being able to finally celebrate her identity this year.
Surrounded by peers and people who love, support, and strengthen her, Miel thinks that it is high time to share her story. “I’ve spent so many sleepless nights over the span of much of my childhood and teenage life worrying and wondering about a plethora of things surrounding my identity, and it only feels right that I post this at the point I’m in now where I’m comfortable enough in who I am and who I love and how I choose to present.”
There is dignity in truth, and Miel Pangilinan’s act of outing oneself can cast ripple effects on those who remain tight-lipped about their identities. In her post, she acknowledged how fortunate she is to have the privilege to speak out. Miel adds, “I’m also incredibly thankful that I am able to safely celebrate my identity this year, as I know there are many of (sic) people in this country that don’t have the same privilege.”
