#GoMezUniverse: Get to Know Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez
Here are facts about the delegate from Cebu City, who will soon represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2021 pageant
We now officially have the beauty queen who will represent the country at this year’s Miss Universe pageant!
Meet Beatrice Luigi Gomez of Cebu City, the first openly queer winner of the competition, a Marines reservist, and a community development worker.
The multi-hyphenate captured hearts at last night’s coronation, wearing a blue evening gown by Furne One Amato, a red one-piece swimwear by Albert Andrada, and answering the question: “If, during your reign as Miss Universe Philippines, things happen in your life that make you sad and uninspired, how would you be able to continue inspiring others?”
“It is very evident that all of us went through difficulties during this pandemic,” Beatrice began.
“But it is also proof that we are able to rise to the occasion, and if anything happened to me during my reign, I will not give up and inspire others by rising to the problems that I am encountering and by inspiring them that whatever you are going through, you will be able to overcome it,” she said.

She is the first openly queer winner of the competition.
Bisexual and non-binary, Beatrice aspires for “acceptance and inclusivity,” as she had said in a story by Cebu Daily News. “I want to empower the youth of the LGBTQIA+ [community] to be productive citizens of society so that despite the discrimination,” she said, “we can take pride in our values and what we can offer to make the world a better place to live in.”
She is a community development worker and a Marines reservist.
In her introductory video for the pageant, Beatrice talked about her occupations outside of pageantry. She loves sports, from boxing, to scuba diving, to volleyball (she was a former varsity player), to running, where she recently completed a 42km run for the benefit of children affected by the armed conflict in Negros.
She is a cat lady!
She and her girlfriend, Kate Jagdon, a DJ, adopted a white cat with blue eyes named Twix during the pandemic. Twix shows up quite frequently on Beatrice’s Instagram page.
This isn’t her first pageant.
In 2015, Beatrice was the second runner-up at the Miss Mandaue pageant, and was crowned Binibining Cebu in January 2020. During the coronation, Beatrice won special awards, like Miss CreamSilk, Best in Evening Gown and Best in Swimsuit.
She is a proud Cebuana.
In her tourism video for Miss Universe Philippines, Beatrice showed us all across Cebu, calling it “not just an island, but a total sensory experience.” She talked about the island’s grandest festival, the Sinulog, as well as their predisposition to prayer and their love for the Miraculous Sto. Niño, which is instilled in every Cebuano.
Miss Universe 2021 will take place in Israel this December.
