Vice Ganda is a comedian, TV host, movie star, endorser, recording artist, performer, author, and, now, even a cosmetics maven. To say that he has a lot on his plate might be more than just an understatement. But despite having to wear so many hats, Vice has nothing but a spotless track record of success. This wasn’t always the case for him, though.
Did you know that before being a certified celebrity A-lister, Vice started out as a comedy bar singer and stand-up comic? He spent several years developing his material in several bars around Metro Manila. Vice then worked his way up the entertainment industry, appearing in support roles for several TV series and sitcoms such as Dyosa and Maging Sino Ka Man. Then in 2009, Vice joined Showtime! which became an instant noontime hit. Many attribute the show’s initial success to Vice’s witty quips as one of the show’s permanent judges.
When the show expanded and became It’s Showtime in 2012, Vice Ganda became a permanent fixture on TV screens and an undisputed superstar. He also serves as one of the judges for the reality talent competition Pilipinas Got Talent and he hosts his own Sunday talk show, Gandang Gabi Vice, so his fans get a dose of Vice Ganda’s antics every day of the week.
Vice Ganda also has the distinction of being the only Filipino actor to have his films earn a gross of close to P3 billion in the box office. He’s best known for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) hits like Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy, The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin, Beauty and the Bestie, and Gandarrapido: The Revenger Squad.
A self-made individual and a stalwart for the LGBT movement, Vice Ganda stands as an icon for Filipinos who work hard and dream big. A scroll through his social media accounts is guaranteed to make one giggle and be inspired. Whether it’s through his KPop-inspired OOTDs on IG or his witty one-liners on Twitter, Vice Ganda will always leave you with a lasting impression.
