Raising Royal Wedding Fever: Princess Eugenie Gets Engaged To Jack Brooksbank!

Joining Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in preparing for a royal wedding are the newly-engaged Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

For the uninitiated, Princess Eugenie is the second daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, and cousin of Princes Harry and William. As the eight monarch in line to the throne, Princess Eugenie doesn't carry out too many royal engagements, but rather focuses her time on philanthropic and charitable efforts. The 27-year-old who graduated with a degree in English and history of art from Newcastle University is also currently the director at luxe art gallery Hauser and Wirth.

Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie's dashing fiancé, Jack, is a heavyweight in the posh London party scene. He's previously worked as the manager of Mahiki, a Tiki-themed bar in Mayfair frequented by socialites, royals, and celebrities, and is now the UK brand ambassador of Casamigos Tequila, a tequila company co-founded by George Clooney.

How the lovebirds met—and instantaneously fell in love—is a story fitting for their royal status:

Seven years ago on a skiing holiday, the Princess and Jack were introduced by a common friend. She was 20, he was 24, and according to both of them, it was love at first sight. Describing themselves as having the same passions and drive for life, the young couple has been together ever since.

What began on the mesmerizing snowy slopes of Verbier, Switzerland would lead up to an engagement atop a mountain peak in Nicaragua where, just a day ago, Jack got down on one knee and asked for Princess Eugenie to be his, for life.

She couldn't have said "Yes!" any faster.

Describing the magical moment in an interview with the BBC, the Princess narrates, "The light was just a special light I had never seen. I actually said, 'This is an incredible moment,' and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we have been together seven years."  She admits that she had absolutely no clue about Jack's plans of proposing.

It's only been a few hours since her ring finger has cradled an engagement ring featuring a padparadscha—an incredibly rare pink-orange sapphire found in Sri Lanka—encircled by diamonds, but the beaming princess says she'll be more than happy to get used to it.

According to Jack, his unique choice for a ring stemmed from how its unique stone was just like his bride-to-be. "What's amazing about it is that it changes color from every different angle that you look at it, which is what I think of Eugenie," he shares in the same interview.

Following their engagement announcement was the release of their official engagement photos. The two were photographed at the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace with Princess Eugenie in a dark floral dress by Erdem and black pumps by Jimmy Choo, whereas Jack wore a classic suit that brought out the true gentleman in him.

The Princess' parents have expressed their delight about the news over social media, and the Queen is likewise reported to be very pleased about their union. Jack first met Queen Elizabeth II during Prince Harry's 32nd birthday where she quickly took to him and approved of her granddaughter's choice of a partner.

Princess Eugenie and Jack are set to be married in autumn of this year. Their wedding will be held in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, the same venue as Prince Harry and Meghan's May 19 ceremony.
