Royals On Air: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Visit Reprezent FM
Youth-led radio station Reprezent FM was graced by newlyeds-to-be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Tuesday, January 9. The visit was the second official appointment of the couple, the first being their official visit to a World AIDS Day event in Nottingham last December.
The non-profit radio station located in Brixton, south London, was set up as a response to the rising knife-related crime rates in the area involving youth. It was one of the many small businesses and start-ups organized 10 years ago in the "Pop Brixton Community," a neighbourhood project developed to provide young people with relevant and accredited training programs as well as employment opportunities in radio, media, and music. The station has helped more than 4,000 young people and have 3,000 more on its wait list.
While able to maintain its success throughout its decade-long existence, Reprezent FM and its leaders expressed gratitude for the royal visit helping them give them welcome attention — and lots of it!
Adoring crowds lined the street to wait for "the people's prince" Prince Harry and his shining fiancé, Meghan. The world on the other hand couldn't wait for new to break about the visit, with practically every person in the couple's global audience excited to see them get their charm on.
As "the world's first modern royals," the pair didn't disappoint.
Prince Harry and Meghan walked down the street hand in hand or with arms around each other's waists while waving and smiling at well-wishers on both sides. They received flowers and other small tokens, shaking hands when they had the chance.
Prince Harry and Meghan met with the station's volunteers and organizers, speaking to them at length about how the project has helped them live productive lives and stay away from negative influences. Relating effortlessly with the station's young volunteers, Prince Harry humored the crowd as he attempted to learn a cool handshake from one of its DJs with Meghan playfully encouraging him in the background.
Members of this south London community with African heritage also shared their happiness about a biracial woman becoming part of the royal family, noting that she has become a role model for young girls with mixed heritage.
Soon after this Tuesday visit, Meghan deactivated her social media accounts that include Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, as announced by Kensington Palace. It was unclear whether she was requested to do so as her role in the British royal family continues to grow, or if she made the decision to do so on her own.
For everyone keeping up with all Prince Harry and Meghan-related news, mark your calendars; only 122 days left until the big day!
