Meet The Filipino Female Fashion Designers Who Empower Women Through Their Creations

In line with International Women's Month, Rustan's—the luxury shopping destination established by the Tantoco family—shines the spotlight on Filipino female fashion designers' creations as well as the initiatives they've fronted to elevate women in society.

Over the years of continued success, these women have made it their mission to empower women—and not just beautify them—with their creations.

Tali Handmade by Liza Morales Crespo and Marielle de Leon-Lazaro

When it comes to fashion, it's not only the aesthetics that appeal to today's conscious shopper, but the story behind the product, too. Business partners Liza and Marielle made sure their brand would have a great narrative by weaving sustainability in terms of materials and production processes with each collection they release. More so, their designs also allude to Philippine culture, with designs inspired by local tribal art! Altogether, their work is proof of the creativity and innovative thinking women entrepreneurs are more than capable of.

Josie Natori

This iconic Filipina designer helped put Philippine talent in fashion on the map. With hard work and an appetite for risk that she balanced with determination and mastery of her craft, Josie created a one-of-a-kind fashion business that merges her Asian aesthetic and love for delicate pieces like robes, kimonos, and elegant slip dresses. It's all a result of what her family told her time and time again as a young woman: never rely on a man, and concentrate on making your own mark in the world.

Criselda Lontok

The legendary Criselda Lontok was one of the first designers to have her creations displayed and sold in Rustan's in its early years. Working closely with Rustan's founder Glecy Tantoco, Criselda proved, with her own work, that women in the industry could wield their power in both the creative aspect and corporate sector of the business. Today, as one of the country's most sought after designers for women's apparel, she continues to do more for women by empowering those in her staff and for her clients, making sure they always feel their best when donning her pieces.
