Shamcey Supsup Is Now The National Director Of The Miss Universe Philippines
The former Miss Universe candidate will officially serve as the pageant's national director in the Philippines with other names in the industry, including designer Albert Andrada and "queen maker" Jonas Gaffud as members of her powerful team
For 50 years, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) and the Araneta Group have been on top of Binibining Pilipinas, the national beauty competition that selects winners for six pageants that Filipinas are famous for winning: Miss Globe, Miss Supranational, Miss Grand International, Miss Intercontinental, Miss International, and of course, Miss Universe.
However, the Miss Universe franchise, which is under the Miss Universe Organization, has reportedly broken away from BPCI and the Araneta Group, and will now officially be teaming up with the Miss Universe Philippines (MUP).
The biggest surprise of all? Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up, Shamcey Supsup-Lee, has been chosen to be MUP's national director.
The announcement was made by none other than Shamcey and MUP just hours after the Miss Universe 2019 coronation night concluded.
Accepting her new role with gusto, Shamcey called MUP an organization that gave her "life as a beauty queen and as a woman" meaning, and said that she and her fellow MUP officers would continue to create more opportunities for aspiring Filipina beauty queens in the future.

I am honored with my new role for the organization that brought meaning to my life as a beauty queen and as a woman. I am more than blessed to be the National Director of Miss Universe Philippines. As I continue to grow, I understand that being an architect and an entrepreneur are facets that will form part of my core as we continue the projects of Miss Universe and create more opportunities for aspiring beauty queens in the future. Thank you for the trust and confidence in my capabilities as a strong and independent woman.
On the other hand, MUP's official Instagram account provided a more detailed account of the big switch. They emphasized the role that BPCI and the Araneta Group had played in turning the local pageant scene into a more meaningful experience for Filipinas that have become a part of it over the years—one that a new team would take over with pride and care for, ensuring that their vision for new Miss Universe Philippines titleholders aligns with that of its founders.
"The foundation and fundamentals of Philippine Pageantry are known worldwide to be solid and shall endure all because of the hard work and commitment of the Araneta Group and BPCI.
Today is a momentous occasion as the country and the Miss Universe Organization focus their collective gaze towards the future of pageantry. It is but fitting that the path to the future be led with vigor and a vision aligned with the transformative purpose of Miss Universe," said the post, in part.
However, an explanation as to why MUP had taken over the Miss Universe franchise was not given.

Beginning today, future Miss Universe Philippines hopefuls can now look forward to being under the tutelage of Shamcey—a woman who not only wowed with her looks, but also with her capabilities as a licensed architect, board top-notcher, restaurant owner, and a multi-hyphenate mom and wife.
She's the embodiment of a modern Filipina whose well-rounded life is inspirational and encouraging, a vision of what a pageant winner deserving of a spot on the Miss Universe stage should be like.
And as national director of the MUP, she'll certainly have a say in the kind of women chosen to represent the country in the most prestigious pageant of them all.
Joining Shamcey in reshaping future Filipino Miss Universe representatives are the following MUP officers:
- Design Council Head: Albert Andrada, the fashion designer behind Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach's winning blue evening gown
- Creative Director: Jonas Gaffud, beauty pageant camp Aces and Queens co-founder and overall pageant expert who trained many of the Philippines' winning candidates
- Head of Women Empowerment Committee and Charity: Lia Ramos

Her lean team of six is out to make a difference in the pageant scene here and abroad, with Filipino pageant fanatics excited for what's to come in the round of searching for the country's next Miss Universe bet.
During the Miss Universe Organization's 50-year partnership with BPCI and the Araneta Group, it produced four Miss Universe winners, and had 10 consecutive Miss Universe representatives reach the semi-finals beginning in 2010 up to the present.
Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados reached the Top 20 in the recently concluded Miss Universe 2019 competition and was the last Miss Universe Philippines candidate to be chosen by BPCI and the Araneta Group.
