SM Celebrates 60 Years With A Star-Studded Launch Party
To look at the breadth and reach of SM now, it would be hard to believe that it all started in 1958 with a simple Carriedo shoe store, and a dream to give Filipinos affordable footwear. By being constantly a step ahead of the game, knowing what his market wanted and needed, providing a comfort zone for retail and shopping no matter what walk of life you came from. Henry Sy, Sr. transformed his dream to a concrete reality that steadily blossomed all over the Philippines.
While many of us may take for granted the SM Supermalls that dot our Manila landscape, in the provinces and outlying cities, it’s still a great source of local pride when a SM City rises in their vicinity. It’s seen as one of the certain signs that their city has "arrived!" And the business of SM has diversified in oh-so-many ways over the last 60 years: the Department Store, the malls, the SM Supermarkets, the SMDC vertical developments (both office and residential), the BDO banking business, the universities & colleges, the stand-alone retail ventures; practically all aspects of our daily lives can and will involve SM.
And to celebrate this 60th year, a launch party was held earlier this week at the MOA, with kickoff events to follow May 25th at SM City Clark, SM City Dasmariñas, SM Seaside City Cebu, and SM Lanang Premier. The MOA party was a gathering of SM partners, tenants, celebrities, and valued stakeholders, all welcomed by the Sy family members.
And while I’m sure all that was transpiring on the stage has been recorded and will be shared by both traditional and social media, I’d like this feature to highlight the personalities who attended this party, showing their strong and avid support to the Sy family—recognising how SM is so ingrained in the lives of Filipinos today.
Here’s to your next 60 Awe-SM years, SM!
