Tributes Pour In After Gina Lopez Passes Away

Government officials, television personalities, and more offer their tributes to the late Gina Lopez

Former ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Head and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez has passed away.

She has been a champion of the environment and underprivileged children for most of her life, changing people's lives through her important work in foundations such as Bantay Bata 163, Bantay Kalikasan, and more.

She has without a doubt left an indelible mark on Philippine society and will truly be missed by all. Many of her friends and colleagues have given their tributes, each brimming with love, gratitude, and sadness.

Here are but a few.

Karen Davila proclaims her love Gina, listing her energy, strength, and positivity as "such inspirations."

I BELIEVE I CAN FLY. She would always sing at the end of a meeting, speech or presscon. Her passion never fails to reverberate around the room. I was lucky enough to have had the privilege of working with her on @GDiariesPH & also hosted several of her events. I remember always being amazed at how much of a DOER she was. More than being a vocal leader, she managed to back up her words with real, gritty, relentless, hard work. I know, because I’ve been to the Lingkod Kapamilya & Bantay Kalikasan communities myself. I’ve seen how they’ve managed to turn places unnoticed into prime tourist destinations. I’ve seen lives changed, communities empowered and Mother Earth breathing a little bit better. What a loss we’ve had today. My heart breaks knowing the World has lost one great soul. We will miss you. You have left an indelible mark. Your #GSquad won’t forget. I know you are flying right now in Heaven :) #MaramingSalamatGinaLopez

Senator Risa Hontiveros said that Gina "fought with everything she had" and that she will be remembered "as a fighter."

Erwan Heussaff recalled the time they biked through the mountains of Tawi Tawi, where "she taught [them] that it's all about moving forward, knowing that the race will never truly end, content with the impact we leave along the way."

I have never met someone that was so driven by her passions. Someone who understood that even in front of adversity, we are the change that we want to see in the world. A staunch champion for thousands of voiceless communities and an infallible protector of the environment. Mother Nature personified, Gina leaves behind a legacy that we should all be inspired by, urging us to become better and help out, in whatever little ways we can, to improve the lives of everyone in our country. I spent just 4 days with her in Tawi Tawi and in that small amount of time, we had already spoken about grand plans, to a point where I was left confused by where to start. She woke up earlier than everyone else and met with community leaders, later than the rest of us. She taught us that it's all about moving forward, knowing that the race will never truly end, content with the impact we leave along the way. Like rays of sunshine, your energy will continue to stir our souls, even on the cloudiest days.

This picture was taken as she followed me to the car a few weeks back...... You showed unconditional love. For your country and for everyone around you. We made history together. You had the vision to make change happen. You knew how to encourage us to find what we had inside us. You were so much like your Dad and Gabby.... On this day a few weeks back I went ahead to the car because I knew it would be the last time I would see you. But you followed and joked around and reminded me what you always tell me. "Never be a doormat,Monchet!" I always say i have had the greatest opportunity to work for the father, the son and the holy spirit. Yes Gina you are a kind and holy spirit... Rest now, but you are in a better place to help us make change happen. I love you Gina.... Thank you for your love. I know believe I can fly. . . . . #ginalopez #abscbnfoundation #intheserviceofthefilipino
