<p>For many <a href="https://metro.style/metro-style/travel">travelers</a>, carrying a <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2025/6/27/ph-to-adopt-global-safety-standard-on-power-banks-1551">power bank</a> (or two) with the highest capacity possible is a lifeline to connection on long-haul flights. While finding a nook to charge your devices has become a lot more common in airports and on <a href="https://metro.style/search?q=airline#gsc.tab=0&amp;gsc.q=airline&amp;gsc.page=1" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">airline</a> seats as of late, there’s nothing like a portable device that you can carry around as a safety net.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1762193964835Metro.Style Emirates Power Bank.jpg" style="width:300px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>Unfortunately for fliers of <a href="https://metro.style/search?q=airline#gsc.tab=0&amp;gsc.q=emirates&amp;gsc.sort=" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Emirates</strong></a>, several new rules have been announced (and implemented) almost immediately, which will prove to be challenging for most passengers on long-haul flights.</p><p>Airlines have introduced updated safety regulations on the use and transport of power banks and lithium batteries to ensure safer flights for everyone. Here’s what passengers need to know before packing their bags.</p><div><strong>Only one power bank is allowed per passenger</strong></div><p>Upon checking in, you&#x27;ll be asked to show your power bank. Here&#x27;s the catch: You are only allowed only one power bank with a maximum capacity of 100 watt hours (Wh). The device must have its capacity clearly marked on its casing for easy verification; otherwise, it would not be allowed to be carried on board.</p><p>What happens when you have multiple devices, or if your power bank doesn’t make the cut? You’ll have to leave it at the check-in counter, and consider that you might never get to see it again.</p><p>While the rule still states that power banks are permitted in cabin baggage only and not allowed in checked-in luggage, it brings us to the next new rule.</p><div><strong>Charging on the plane is prohibited</strong></div><p>Using power banks to charge devices (or charging the power bank itself) onboard is now strictly prohibited. This means you need to charge inside the lounge or use your power bank until they announce that the plane is about ot take off. </p><div><strong><span>Store power banks in the seat pocket or under the seat in front of you</span></strong></div><p>During the flight, the power bank must be secured in the seat pocket or under the seat in front of you, rather than in the overhead compartment.
