Rediscovering Discovery

To make a mark in the Luxury Hotel & Resort category is no mean feat. This is a Hospitality category that has been dominated by recognizable foreign brands such as Four Seasons, Bvlgari, Aman, Soneva, Ritz-Carlton, et al; so to find a homegrown brand reaping awards and consistently doing so, speaks volumes of the kind of commitment this Hospitality group has to providing the right amenities, a high level of service, and sustaining this standard over the years.

At the recently held World Luxury Hotel Awards held at St. Moritz, Switzerland; Country Winner in two categories, for Luxury Wedding Destination & Luxury Family Resort, was our very own Discovery Shores Boracay. This latest accolade comes on the heels of their figuring in the 2018 Condé Nast Johansens Awards as Best for Families. And so as not to feel alone as the only Discovery Group awardee, the Discovery Primea on Ayala Ave., Makati copped Best Urban Hotel at the same Condé Nast Johansens Awards.

And let’s keep in mind that in this luxury category, we’re talking of a clientele that’s a fussy, nitpicking bunch, very particular or even eccentric. They expect and demand only the best - where bedsheets of high thread counts, cotton rich towels, goose down duvets and comforters are the norm.

Celebrating its 10th year, Discovery Shores Boracay essentially blazed the trail for luxury resort accommodations on the island, first in going beyond quaint cottages or villas to erect a concrete edifice that blended with the seascape and topography. At a time when others may have doubted the validity of that kind of infrastructure investment, the Tiu’s boldly forged ahead and have stayed at the forefront of providing ‘more than the rest’.

In the case of Discovery Primea, beyond the excellent food outlets of Flame & Tapenade, it has gained an excellent record of transforming into a ‘home away from home’ for its discriminating guests. Whether long stay guests or just passing through, Primea has gained an enviable reputation in a relatively short hotel lifetime.

We often talk about Go Lokal, of championing the homegrown and truly Filipino; well, here in a rarefied category of the Hospitality industry, one of our own has dared to dream, and wake up ‘living the dream’.
