Palawan has been named as one of the Most Instagrammable Places in the World—and our local celebrities agree! Get inspired by these celebs' IG posts of Palawan and discover its breathtaking sights for yourself by planning your own island getaway to this amazing destination this year
If you’ve been bitten by the travel bug, then you must have been planning your trips for 2020. But before you buy those airline tickets for international destinations, why not go local first and explore our very own breathtaking 7,641 islands?
Start with Palawan, which has been awarded yet again, this time by global travel site Big 7 Travel, as one of the “Most Instagrammable Spots In The World,” ranking 36th out of 50. And why not? The largest province in the Philippines boasts of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—the Puerto Princesa Subtarreanean River National Park and the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park; pristine beaches such as Nacpan and San Vicente; wildlife sanctuaries; rich marine life perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving; and under the radar charming coastal towns such as Port Barton.
According to Big 7 Travel, the final list was a result of a "comprehensive scoring system that analysed the amount of hashtags per destination, survey results from our audience, and votes cast by our global editorial team."
The travel site describes Palawan as “A piece of paradise that’s miles away from the hectic bustle of Manila, Palawan is simply perfect. Instagrammers have been flocking to it in droves in recent months and the buzz around Palawan is only getting bigger…”
While locals have long known about this gem, the past decade has seen an increased number of tourists flocking to Palawan, thanks to video production companies that have filmed on the island. Films and TV shows like The Bourne Legacy and The Amazing Race, in particular, have highlighted the limestone cliffs of El Nido.
Being named as one of the best islands in the world is nothing new for Palawan. Other publications online and on print have recognized the stunning beauty of Palawan such as Conde Nast Traveller, Travel + Leisure, National Geographic Travel, and CNN Travel. Palawan has been named “Most Beautiful Island In The World” by Conde Nast Traveller for 2016 and 2017, and Travel + Leisure for 2013, 2016 and 2019. Conde Nast Traveller’s 2019 Reader’s Choice Awards named Palawan “Best Island In The World,” while El Nido was named “Most Beautiful Beach In The World.” It was named one of the “20 Best Trips” by National Geographic Travel in 2010, and CNN Travel included it as one of the “10 of the World’s Most Beautiful Islands.”

Just another day in #Paradise Onuk Island, Balabac is located in the southernmost part of Palawan. Sea turtles (locally called as pawikan) are not unusual in this island. You can even watch them as they swim the turquoise waters.
